| George E. Lamb was born in Oklahoma to Oliver Lamb and M. Omstead. Oliver married two times. First to M, then to Abby, who did not have any children. George married Elsie Hicks and fathered four children, but he left her several times during the great depression of the 1930's. He helped at times, but remained out of the lives of his children for many years. During those times when he was not there, the U.S. government helped Elsie. George later married Nelie. Nelie had George go back and help Elsie financially. | Elsie Hicks (Lamb) was born on Oklahoma to John Wesley Hicks and Jane Ann Dorcas. She married George E. Lamb and gave birth to four children during the 1920's. During the 1920's and 30's her husband would leave her and live elsewhere. He would return every year or so to father another child and then would leave again. Elsie would take him back every time, because she truly loved him, but he could not return the love, which she gave so freely. During those times when he was not there, the U.S. government helped Elsie, but one day a social security agent told Elsie to divorce George, who was not there to help her and the children or suffer the termination of government help. She divorced George, but never remarried. Years later George came back again to help her financially, but he was already remarried. The children took care of Elsie as she grew older. Merle built a house for her in Delft, near Dinuba, California. |
