| John was born in Down Co. Ireland, in a town near Belfast. There he grew up with his many brothers and sisters. In the early 1860's he moved with his family to America. The Berrys settled in Stone Co. Arkansas. There John enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 1866, when John was 13 years old, his family home was invaded by the raiders. John stood up the the raiders and would not give them passage into the house. In fact, when one of the raiders tried to brake into the home, John shot him, causing the other raiders to flee. (from Floyd) In the 1890's, he met Faye and they were wed. On one morning John was heating up a kettle of water for his tea. When he burnt his mouth on the hot water, John become so angry that he stomped the kettle into the ground with his boots. John stayed in Stone Co. Arkansas for the rest of his life. | Faye was born in the 1860's, but it is not known where. She married John in the 1890's and live in Stone Co. Arkansas with him. She gave birth to four boys, Wes, James, Earl, and Willey (Raymond) and one girl Laura Mae. She raised her children and loved her grandchildren dearly. She became blind in the 1900's and lived until 1943. |
