“NEWBORN THUMBELINA LAYETTE WARDROBE” is a pattern booklet from the archives of Mini-Fashion Boutique featuring original vintage doll designs published over 30 years ago. This pattern booklet is for 9" Newborn Thumbelina (Ideals wiggling baby) and the outfits were designed when I first started designing and sewing for dolls. It was self-published in 1968 by Mini-Fashion Boutique, which was a source of independently designed fashions published in separate fashion sheets, booklets, or in a bi-monthly newsletter.

This pattern booklet features a basic layette of eight designs of outfits for several occasions. OUTFITS INCLUDE:

1) Kimono -- Sketch is shown on cover above. This is a typical baby kimoni with raglan sleeves and bows down the front, closes with snaps. Make of lightweight t-shirt knit or flannel, in soft, pale colors.

2) Smock Dress -- Another basic baby outfit, Smock Dress -- features a lace trimmed bodice and gathered skirt. Sketch is shown below, left.

3) Hooded Coat & Mitts -- Keep Newborn Thumbelina warm is her coat with peaked hood and mitts for her tiny hands. Sketch above, right.

4) Diaper Set -- This is a MUST in any baby layette! (haha) A fitted shaped diaper with bound edges, and that ties in front. Diaper can be flannel or t-shirt type knit. Topped with gathered top, also trimmed with binding and shoulder ties, and a peak-a-boo bonnett. See below, left:

5) Bubble Suit for playtime! Very cute little one piece outfit. As an option, you can leave the crotch open and add snaps so her diaper is easily changed! Sketch is above, right.

6) Top & Pants/Pajamas -- The full angel top features elastic at wrists and lace trim, and is worn over pants with elastic waist. Besides being a basic all-around outfit, this design can also be made into pajamas just by changing the material used, such as flannel or t-shirt knit. Shown below.

7) Bunting & Bonnet -- A basic layette wouldn't be complete without a bunting (a sack-like "blanket" to slip the baby in. Create a matching bonnet using pattern from Diaper Set or Coat Hood. No sketch shown.

Sketches of the outfits as shown here and instructions are on the pages with the pattern pieces. The booklet is reprinted from my original copy on 8-1/2" x 11" paper. One of my earliest designs, my original pattern was printed on a spirit duplicator before I got my mimeograph--true kitchen table publishing! It has a pink cover sheet as shown and there are 6 pages of patterns.

Check my other listing for another Thumbelina pattern booklet "from the archives" featuring Christening set. Booklet cover is shown below on the right.
