I'd Rather Be...

Hawaii is supposed to be paradise. But when monsoon season arrives, I'd rather be in New Mexico. The beauty of the Rocky Mountains is shown in magazines and calendars and posters. But when it's sixty below and the winds are blowing forty-five miles-per-hour and there's an eighty-five percent chance of snow flurries, well, I'd like to be in New Mexico. The drastic wind patterns make Texas and Oklahoma the Tornado Alley. The Mississippi River Valley has some beautiful scenery but when it's covered in flood water, I'd much rather be in New Mexico. The Eastern Seaboard is lovely beaches and coastal plains, but the hurricanes and tropical storms make me long for New Mexico. California's warm climate and cool waters are perfect for a long summer's afternoon. However, an earthquake can ruin the moment in nothing flat.

New Mexico has no floods, no tornadoes, no violent storms. The temperature is warm and balmy all year round. You can cool off with a dip in the pool from January to December if you'd like. I could be writing this on my patio right now, but to do so in North Dakota, I'd need thermal underwear and a parka.

Well, I'd just rather be in New Mexico.
