... For gallantry in action on Engineer Point, Corregidor, Philippine Islands on May 6, 1942. When enemy forces made a landing in the vicinity of his machine gun position on Engineer Point, Corregidor, Philippine Islands, Private Palumbo remained at his post under heavy artillery fire, manning his guns until he was seriously wounded. Through his exceptional courage and devotion to duty, Private Palumbo set an inspiring example for his comrades and his gallant action was instrumental in maintaining high morale in the command during a most critical time.
