Charlie James and his wife Lucille were married only 3
days before the Regiment was sent to Fort Bliss for
training. Lucille worked for Carlsbad Army Air Base, and
later for the Maritime Commission in San Francisco where
the two were reunited after Charlie's repatriation and
while he was in hospital there.

The 200th Coast Artillery was federalized January 6,
1941 and immediately set off to Fort Bliss before
deploying to the Philippines in August 1941. Left to
right: Charlie James, Frank Forni and Leon Beasley. All
three men were attached to F Battery. Forni passed away
in 1960, and Beasley in 1961.
