Eligio Baca was a lifelong resident of Chimayo, New Mexico. He was maker of Spanish Colonial
furniture for the famous Ortega Weavers of Chimayo.
His specialty was chairs and couches custom made to a patron's orders, usually upholstered in fabrics woven to
order with the pieces designed to last for several generations.
In 1968, David Ortega said of Baca, “He's a terrific craftsman. He does all our furniture making and there are many people who are very satisfied with his work. I'm one of them.”
Eligio Baca died in 1977 after a lengthy illness. |
