VA Hospital Recognizes Former POWs
ALBUQUERQUE - Former prisoners of war and their families will be
the guests of a special ceremony on April 6, at the Raymond G.
Murphy VA Medical Center, 1501 San Pedro Drive SE. The annual
Former Prisoner of War (Ex-POW) Recognition Ceremony runs from
11 a.m. to noon in the Education Building (#39) auditorium.
The guest speaker will be Timothy Hale,
Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans’
Services, and a retired U.S. Air Force colonel.
The program celebrates Former Prisoner of
War Recognition Day, observed nationally April 9. Since World
War I, more than 142,000 Americans, including 85 women, have
been captured and interned as POWs. Not included in this figure
are nearly 93,000 Americans who were lost or never recovered.
This event is free and open to the public.
