VA Hospital Recognizes Former POWs

ALBUQUERQUE - Former prisoners of war and their families will be the guests of a special ceremony on April 6, at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center, 1501 San Pedro Drive SE. The annual Former Prisoner of War (Ex-POW) Recognition Ceremony runs from 11 a.m. to noon in the Education Building (#39) auditorium.

The guest speaker will be Timothy Hale, Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services, and a retired U.S. Air Force colonel.

The program celebrates Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, observed nationally April 9. Since World War I, more than 142,000 Americans, including 85 women, have been captured and interned as POWs. Not included in this figure are nearly 93,000 Americans who were lost or never recovered.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information about this program, please call Trudi Valdez, POW Administrative Coordinator, at (505) 265-1711, ext. 4111.
