Young men from all across New Mexico, from
all walks of life, joined the National Guard
at the end of the Great Depression. The New
Mexico National Guard, the oldest in the
United States, traces its origins to the
Spanish Colonial Period of the 17th Century.
“We're good soldiers, and
are taking it with our chins up...
Naturally, we regret that our troops could
not have been given assistance, but we are
proud of the fight they put up against
overwhelming odds. That's the spirit that
will win the war.”
