On behalf of the Summit Park Neighborhood Association I would like to welcome the Bataan Veterans, honored dignitaries, neighbors and visitors to our beloved Bataan Memorial Park.

Fifty-nine years ago, our neighborhood was fortunate to be designated as the home to a living monument honoring those brave men. With its expansion this year, the Bataan-Corregidor story is now chronicled for all future visitors.

We know that the “Pillars on the Ellipse” will draw many people into the serenity of this memorial. The architecture lends itself to reflection and engenders a respect that is so deeply deserved.

This memorial serves to pay tribute to the more than 1800 members of the 200th and 515th Coast Artillery Regiments of the New Mexico Army National Guard. It is because of their sacrifices that countless children and families are able to play freely in this park.

The Summit Park Neighborhood Association has always and will always help to maintain this park as a place for joyful activity and thoughtful remembrance.
