Chapter 18

**Kayci**

Two weeks had gone by and we had just gotten notice that the guys were going to be starting up their tour again. Over seas. Nick had started eating again on a regular basis again, and I couldn't be happier! The relationship between Brian and I had gotten better to the point where we could have a civil conversation with each other. Nick and I hadn't gotten much sleep all week long. We just couldn't sleep. I didn't want him to go on tour, but I couldn't tell him that. I couldn't tell him that I've felt like crying every second of every day since we found out he was leaving. We were engaged...we shouldn't be dragged apart!

"Kayci?"

I looked up from my bed and saw Nick walk out of the bathroom. "Yeah, Honey?"

He crawled up the end of the bed and laid on his side next to me. "I really, really don't want to go on tour." Yes! God, I wish I could tell him how happy I am to hear that.

"Nick, you don't mean that. You have to go on tour." I ran my hand through his hair and kept it on the side of his face. "You have to go and make the world happy."

"But I want to stay here and make you happy!"

I laughed. "You do, Honey. And don't forget that when you're on tour. We'll only be apart a couple of weeks and then Jessica and I are coming to join you guys."

"Do you know how badly I'm gonna miss you?"

"I think I have an idea." I leaned in and quickly kissed him.

"Well keep your schedule open for tomorrow evening."

"Why?"

He grinned that lop-sided grin. "Because I want to take you out tomorrow."

"Okay."

"I really don't want to go on tour again."

"Let's not talk about it anymore. We still have three days left. Let's not ruin them. And besides, like I said before, I'll be with you in two weeks."

"I can't wait that long! Why can't you come sooner?"

"Nick, you'll live. I know you will. Just do everything that you did before I was in your life."

"God, I don't know what I did back then!"

"Now you're being ridiculous. You'll be fine. Two weeks is not a long time."

He sighed. "Maybe you're right."

"Trust me. Two weeks will fly by. Do you trust me?"

"Of course I do."

**Nick**

Of course I trusted her. It was myself that I didn't trust. I didn't want to leave her...not even for two weeks which seems like an eternity. How could I tell her that I wanted to quit the group? How could I tell her that I hated touring...that if I never saw another screaming fan that it would be okay...that if I crawled under a rock somewhere that I would be happy if I was with her? I didn't want to worry her, because she would only worry if I said something like that. I know her way too well, and I know that she can see right through me, she always has. I sighed out loud and wrapped her in my arms. I could already feel that these next couple days were going to fly by and then I would have to leave her and then two weeks would drag on forever...seeing if they could drive me insane, which they would. Secretly, I was seriously terrified that by the time Kayci joined me on tour, I would have either quit the group, or killed myself.

**Kayci**

"Hey, you wanna do something tonight?" Jessica asked me as we sat on my couch.

"No. Nick said that he wanted to take me out tonight."

"Aw, that's sweet."

I couldn't help but smile. "I know. I love him so much."

She stuck her finger down her throat. "You two deserve each other."

"Oh, shut up." I sighed. "What am I going to do without him for two weeks?"

"You wanna know?" I nodded. "You have two options. One...you sit home and wait for him to call you every morning and after every show and you make yourself miserable and miss him to death. Two...you set a time for him to call you after a show and you live your life with me the rest of the time and miss him occasionally."

I thought about that for a minute. I knew that I couldn't just sit around and mope all day, everyday, it wasn't healthy and that meant that we didn't have a healthy relationship. I did not want that. "I think I'll go with option number two."

"Good for you! Good answer." Jessica was about to say something else when A.J. walked into the house. He walked over to Jess and started kissing her. I sat there for a couple of minutes twidling my thumbs, not really staring at them.

"Oh, hi Kayci," A.J. said looking up briefly.

"Oh gee, you know that I'm here?"

"Well leave."

"A.J.!" Jess said. "That's not nice!"

"I didn't mean it like that!" he said. "Nick wants you."

"What else is new?" Jess said.

"No, he wants you over at your house."

"Oh," I said. "See ya, guys." A.J. leaned down and started kissing her again. Yahoo, I'll just walk away now. I stuffed my hands into my jeans pockets and walked to my house. I walked in and looked around. "Nick?"

"I'm in here, Honey!" I heard him say from my room. I walked into my room and when I saw him, I gasped. There he was, in a black and white tux lined with green and a green tie. He had his hair slicked back and he had on his reading glasses. He was so gorgeous, I could literally not catch my breath.

"Hi," I could barely get out. "I see that you're ready to go. I have to take a shower, fix my hair I have to find something to wear-"

"Don't worry," he said pulling out a box from behind his back. "I have everything taken care of." He handed me the box.

I went and sat down on my bed and opened the box. I slowly moved the tissue paper and saw something sparkle. I stood up and pulled out a deep green, silk dress covered with diamonds. "Oh, Nick-"

He pointed to the dress. "They're real diamonds. Now, go put it on." He pushed me towards my closet and closed the door after me.

I changed into the dress and turned around to look in the mirror. The straps were made of diamonds and there was a criss-cross of diamonds in the back and the entire dress, that had a small tail in the back, was covered in diamonds. I covered my mouth. This must have cost a fortune. I looked around and noticed that I had no shoes that even came close to matching this. I slowly walked out of the closet. "Nick, oh my God it's beautiful."

**Nick**

I heard her behind me. I turned around and felt breathless. No words could describe how absolutely gorgeous she looked to me. Even with her hair up in a pony tail, she looked... "Wow, you look...stunning." I held up a pair of matching green, silk gloves. She slipped them on and then looked at me.

"Nick, I have no shoes-"

"Don't worry." I held up a pair of matching green, open-toed, high heeled shoes that had a line of diamonds across the toes. I put them down on the ground and helped her into them.

"Nick, I can't accept this. Besides, my hair probably looks terrible." She ran her hand over her pony tail.

I shook my head and gently took the scrunchie out of her hair, letting her hair fall down around her shoulders. I ran my fingers through it a couple of times and then looked at her. "Beautiful." I stood back and looked at her. "Something's missing." Oh, I couldn't wait to see her face.

**Kayci**

Missing? What could possibly be missing? He reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box. He opened it and showed me a gorgeous diamond braclet. I gasped, I think a little too loudly because he laughed at me. He took it out and gently clasped it around my right wrist. Oh my God. "Nick, I can't accept this. It's too much."

"Ready to go?" he asked smiling.

Damn it, he just had this way of changing the subject when I couldn't accept one of his expensive gifts. He held out his arm and I took it. He opened the door for me and we stepped outside. Awaiting for us at the end of the lawn was a long, white limousine. The driver got out and opened the door for us. This dress was not the most comfortable thing to sit down on. Nick took my hand and kissed it. I smiled at him and turned to look out the window. I felt something brush against the back of my neck and my back. I turned around and saw Nick holding up a red rose in front of his face.

He handed it to me. "It will look better if you walk in with one of these."

"Where are we going?"

"It's a surprise and I've bet that you've never heard of it. I can tell you that it's very exclusive and only cool people like myself can get in."

I laughed at him and he just stared at me. "What?"

"It's just that you look so beautiful but..."

"But?"

"There's still something missing." Oh God.

**Nick**

I reached into my coat pocket and pulled out another box. I opened it and showed her a diamond necklace. Her face was priceless. She was so shocked. I don't know why she feels like she can't accept any of these things. If anything, these diamonds deserve her.

"Nick, it's so beautiful," she said as she ran her fingertips over it.

"Turn around." She turned around, moved her hair away and I clasped it around her neck. She turned back around and looked at me like she was going to cry. "Do you like it?"

"Nick, you shouldn't have."

"Yes I should have."

"This stuff it's all...so expensive!"

"So? It's not like I don't have the money and you deserve every penny of it. Make me happy and accept it."

She paused. "Okay, if it's all right."

I laughed. "I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't want you to have it." She moved over and leaned her head down on my shoulder.

"Thank you."

The limo stopped and Kayci sat up. "We're here." The driver opened the door and I helped her out. We stood and looked at a huge mansion. It was one of the most exquisite French restaurants in the world. Literally.

"Oh my God," she said.

"I take it you've heard of this place."

"Heard of it? I've fantasized about it practically my entire life! Oh my God!"

**Kayci**

Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God! I could only stare at the white mansion all lit up. It was huge, and exclusive, and expensive. I've heard stories from people that they can drop a couple hundred dollars with dinner and wine. You would have to make reservations years in advance or pay a great deal of money, and not just anyone got in. I took his arm in one hand and the rose in the other and we started walking but he stopped me. I turned and looked at him. "Nick?"

"There is still something missing." Oh no. What now? He wouldn't give me something else, would he? It wasn't that I wasn't completely greatful, because I was! I'm just not used to someone, actually a man, spending this kind of money...getting me such ravishing jewelry and want to...going through such great lengths...and not expect something in return.

"Nick?" He pulled out a box from his jacket and handed it to me. I opened it and inside sat a pair of dangling diamond earrings. He took them out and handed them to me one at a time as I stuck them in my ear. "Better?" He looked at me for a minute.

"Perfect." I took his arm again and we walked up the cobblestone walk way. When we came to the large white door, it opened.

"Bonsoir Mademoiselle, Monsieur. Do you have a reservation?"

"Of course," Nick said, with a snotty attitude. "Carter."

The man looked down at his list. He looked up and smiled. "Ah, Monsieur Carter. Our exclusive guest. We have reserved a table in our most luxiurious room. Follow me, s'il vous plaît." I gripped Nick's arm tighter as he led us into a beautiful room. There was a hard wood dance floor surrounded by white tables with white candles and roses. There were three large, crystal chandeliers hanging low from the ceiling. I've never seen so many beautiful dresses or as many diamonds in one room at one time in my life. I had never thought that I would ever even come close to the grounds of this place. It seems like such a dream.

"Is this table to your liking, Mademoiselle?"

"Of course. It's wonderful," I said, trying not to sound over excited. The man pulled out the chair for me and I sat down gently. "Merci," I said. Nick sat down across from me. The man bowed slightly and walked away. I let out a deep breath that I had been holding in. Nick reached across the table and took my hand.

He laughed. "Honey, relax."

"I can't! I mean, look at these people! They're all gorgeous." I leaned closer to him and whispered, "I think we're the youngest ones here!"

"I think we are, too, but shh, don't tell!"

**Nick**

She smiled at me and squeezed my hand. I wanted her to lighten up a little bit. I brushed my thumb over her diamond ring. A new song started from the string quintet and an idea formed in my head. I stood up, smoothed down my jacket and held my hand out to her. "Would you care to dance, my lady?"

"Of course." I helped her up and led her out to the dance floor. There were two other couples dancing and they were pretty good. I took her right hand in my left and put my other arm around her waist and pulled her close to me. My heart jumped at just the sight of her. She was so incredibly gorgeous. Why would she waste herself on me?

We did a kind of Foxtrot for a while. She was a better ballroom dancer than I was but I'm trying! Atleast I haven't stepped on her...yet.

**Kayci**

I danced evermore closer to him. I tightened my arm around his neck and played with the hair at the nape of his neck. I looked at him with so much love...so much adoration. "I love you," I whispered.

He leaned down and kissed me as the song ended. "I love you, too."

We sat down and a waiter came over to our table. "Are you ready to order?"

Nick grinned at me and held up his menu to the waiter. "We'll both have this and this."

"Ah, oui Monsieur." He took our menus and walked away. I looked at Nick.

"Trust me," he said. I only nodded.

A few minutes later, the waitor came back with a covered bottle. He pulled out two, golden rimmed wine glasses. "A bottle of our finest champagne." He poured it into our glasses and then left the bottle in a bucket of ice.

Nick held up his glass. "To us."

"To us," I agreed and touched my glass to his.

**Nick**

After dinner, dessert and a couple more songs of dancing, we were ready to leave. I got the check and hid it from Kayci. Here, they only accepted cash so I tried to be discreet as I pulled out five hundred and fifty dollars from my wallet. She turned her head and I slipped it into the book and closed it. I put it down on the table and stood up. I held out my hand and helped her up. She took my arm and we walked to the door.

"Good evening, Monsieur, Mademoiselle." We tipped our heads and walked out of the mansion. I led her down to our waiting limo and helped her inside. As the limo started she gave me a hug.

"Thank you so much, Nick." She looked at me like she was going to cry.

"Are you okay?" I asked concerned. A tear slipped down her face. "Oh no, what's wrong?"

"It's just that...you keep making my dreams come true. I cannot believe that you pulled this together tonight. You are just so amazing."

"Anything for you." I leaned in and kissed her. I really meant it. If I had known her a long time ago, I swear that our song "Anywhere For You" would be dedicated to her. All I wanted was to make her happy and give her expensive gifts and take her around the world. She pulled away and looked at me. She took my glasses off and looked into my eyes. She looked so beautiful, I love her so much.

**Kayci**

Nick helped me out of the limo when we arrived at my house. He took my hands in his and looked at me. "Kayci? Um-"

"What is it Nick?"

He paused. "Kayci, make love to me?" I was a little shocked. He had never asked me before. I was always the one that asked him. I slightly smiled and nodded. He picked me up in his arms and carried me into the house, through the house and out to the porch. The entire porch was lit in white candles. He carried me down the stairs, which also had candles on them, and followed a path of white candles. He stopped and set me down on a white, silk blanket, close to the water.

"How did you-"

"Shh," he said and kissed me.
