Sussex County Right To Life Joins
Forces With
Human Life International's
Shareholder Resolution Program
Reporting from HLI Website
http://www.hli.org:
(November 2001 HLI Reports)
Human Life International has put together a strategy - the Shareholder
Resolution Campaign. Its potential for success was documented in the
front-page story of the May HLI Reports that featured this banner
headline:
“Pro-Life Efforts Win
Victory.”
This article highlighted the details of how HLI persuaded
the Target Corporation to discontinue its policy of funding Planned
Parenthood. This new campaign uses the potential of the shareholder
resolution. HLI wrote to Target advising them that, as a stockholder, HLI
would be proposing a “shareholder resolution” regarding charitable
contributions at the company’s upcoming annual meeting.
Rather than engage in a lengthy and potentially disastrous (not to mention
unnecessary) public relations fight, the company would prefer to cease the
funding. That, in essence, is what Target said to HLI.
HLI is now embarking on a major campaign to obtain the number of stocks
that will allow us to prepare shareholder resolutions for the following
companies that subsidize the Culture of Death. These companies
include:
American Express
American Home Products
Bank of America
Bank One
Berkshire Hathaway
Chase Manhattan
Cigna
Disney
Federal Home Loan
First Union
Johnson & Johnson
J.P. Morgan
Lincoln National
Medtronic
Merck
Microsoft
Nationwide Financial
New York Times
Northern Trust
RadioShack

HLI's Executive VP, Fred
Turek reports,
"After reading the August 2001 HLI
Reports article titled, “The Right To Choose: Making Informed Decisions
About Vaccines,” which discussed the Merck company’s anti-life
practices, he called to say he owned stock in Merck and wanted HLI to
undertake a similar campaign against this company. He arranged to
turn the stock over to HLI. We are is now in the process of submitting a
shareholder resolution that may force Merck to stop its anti-life
practices."
