Experts debate cancer, abortion link

A public meeting has begun in Melbourne to discuss what a United States surgeon says is a link between breast cancer and abortion.

Dr Angela Lanfranchi says numerous studies have shown having an induced abortion, especially as a teenager, increases the risk of developing breast cancer.

Several cancer experts and societies have condemned her views.

About 50 people are attending a meeting, organised by the pro-life group, Endeavour Forum.

Dr Lanfranchi says she does not understand why the link is not being discussed.

Dr Lanfranchi's views are included in a booklet that has been distributed by the Endeavour Forum to several Melbourne suburbs.
