DEADBEAT or DEADBEATS:
The way I see it, there are two different kinds of parents:
1) Those who adore their children
2) Those who view their children as a burden
BASICS:
--there are no "fathers rights" in child support
--there are no "mothers rights" in child support
--there are ONLY the "childs rights"
The state and federal government are TIRED of parents not paying for thier children, so they passed stronger laws. But caseworkers are buried in cases, the courts dont have enough time for such a huge amount of deadbeats (a common problem), so in many states it takes 3 months or more just to get a hearing for non payment.
DEADBEAT MENTALITY
Some deadbeats use the excuse that they 'dont know where the money is going, so they are not paying until they do' or their 'wife is not giving the money to the child(ren).
Its called Child SUPPORT, not Child TRUST FUND... and its taking everything in me not to call them stupid. But that is exactly what it is. It never dawns on them that if we gave the money to the children, they would spend it on CD's, DVD's, posters, junk food, and GOD knows what else. That means it wouldnt go toward food, electric and all aspects of the childs life. STUPID.
But for some, they need it explained to them. For some, they are just looking for a loop-hole.
DEADBEATS CAN LIVE TOO:
Look, its not easy on anyone; you, the ex, the child(ren). Dont whine about your child support, and in the same sentence say you cant afford your $400-$500 payment on your vehicle.
Why are you not complaining about your auto payment? Why would you embrace that debt while knowing you have children to support? That just shows everyone around you that your vehicle is more important then your own kids. STUPID.
SOME IDEAS FOR STUPID DEADBEATS:
1) drive used auto's, like the rest of us do.
2) get a roomate
3) go to the foodbank, like the rest of us do.
4) pack your lunch, like the rest of us do.
5) We dont want to hear your complaining.... this is what it is for us:
you pay what? 400? 600? 900?
ok, lets see...
rent; 1000
electric 300
food 400-600
diapers 75-150 per month (fluctuates when baby is sick or teething)
heat 300
phone/cable 100
auto/gas; (for doctors, dentists, take to school when they miss the bus, pick up when sick, pick up medicines, get food) 200
clothing/shoes/boots 200-400 every 2 to 3 months
(seasonal and they grow)
that doesnt even include dental, doctors, glasses, daycare, hair cuts, school supplies, school lunches, school projects, class trips, class pictures, over the counter medicines, prescriptions, laundry det, dish det, cleaners, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, acne medines, bra's, pads, christmas, easter, halloween, tooth fairy, birthdays, etc. and soooooo much more.
try calling 1-800- I CANT ADD
DEADBEAT TRICKS THEY TRY:
Ahhh... the trick they all try. Its like they all have the same book, but have not read it yet. Its common, so dont feel bad.
1) "SUDDENLY" being laid off, fired- yeah, that an old trick.
2) HIDING UNTIL THEY REACH 18- GONE are the days of deadbeats hiding. The courts are onto that little trick... today, arrears are forever. That child can be 30 and getting married, and the deadbeat still owes it. Tax Refunds still will be snatched, and wages attached until the arrears amount is paid in full.
3) RUNNING TO ANOTHER STATE-GONE are the days of running to another state to avoid child support. The courts are also onto this little trick, and today, its a Federal Offense to run across state lines to avoid child support. If your ex does this, demand the laws be applied to your case.
4) WORKING UNDER THE TABLE-GONE are the days of working under the table to avoid child support. The courts are onto this little trick also. The child support just keeps adding up... becoming "arrears". Today, you can report this to the IRS (for the deadbeat and his employer). Both will be audited.
5) BUYING THINGS IN STEAD OF PAYING SUPPORT-
6) WANTING CUSTODY-
7) TELLING THE KIDS "THATS WHAT I PAY CHILD SUPPORT FOR"
8) ASSUMING THE MOTHER IS SPENDING SUPPORT ON HERSELF-
9) TRYING TO CLAIM THE KIDS ON THIER TAXES FOR DEPENDENTS-
CASE HELP:
But if you feel, that your caseworker or child support dept isnt on the ball, pull rank 'em.
1) Call your caseworker and ask:
--where you apply for interest on the arrears?
--was the case submitted for tax refund intercept?
--was the arrears reported to the 3 credit reporting agencies yet?
2) Sit down and write a letter. In it, give your contact info, case number, his info, arrears amount, the problem and ask them what they are doing about it. Ask why leins have not been put on his bank accounts, home, property. Ask why his drivers license has not been taken away. Ask why he is not in jail.
then take that ONE letter and FAX it to the following:
a) your states Attorney General (link is below)
b) your states Governor (link is below)
c) your states Regional FEDERAL Child Support Office (link is below)
Phone calls are useless; they are ignored, denied and forgotten. Mail ends up on someones "to do" pile, but FAXES are effective. Its proof you sent it and proof they recieved it, therefor, they HAVE to address it. If you cant find a fax number (most are listed online) then just call them and ask for it.
If you hear nothing in a week, fax them again. Fax them weekly if need be. Its the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, if ya know what I mean.
Dont take "no" for an answer. Who cares if you miff them off... just keep at them. WEEKLY, until they address this issue/problem.
3) post his DEADBEAT FACE ON A DEADBEAT SITE ONLINE!
