Weekly News

After tying the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-2, the MetroStars were burned up by the Dallas Burn by a score of 0-3. In a line-up that featured guys like Tim Howard, Steve Jolley, and Eddie Pope, also had Gio Saveresse and Jim Rooney, both who left the team before the long forgotten 1999 season. Gio is the team's all-time leading scorer, and Rooney was one of leaders of the team in the 1998 season.

In the 11th minute, Jason Kreis was awarded a penalty kick, and the 1999 MLS MVP shot the ball past Timmy Howard for a 0-1 lead. The score remained the same until halftime.

The second half featured several subsitutions by both teams. Paul Daglish scored goals in the 85th and 89th minute to seal the victory for the Burn.

Though the team dropped to a 1-2-1 record in preseason, the team is still optimistic about the upcoming season, and their progress. Just like any time in preseason, there are segments we did pretty well," said defender Steve Jolley. Actually we did exceptionally well, considering we are missing a lot of pieces and new ones are coming in. It is just a matter of us putting together those 15-20 good minutes and continue it for 90. It is just going to take some time. We have a lot of new players playing important positions. For a good 70-80 minutes we played well. We are still working things out.

Alough Rooney left the team in an unplesant way, he's happy about his trial. "It’s good to be around. I have a good relationship with Bob. My family is still in New York and family-wise for me this makes sense. We will see how it goes from here. Bob is giving me a good opportunity."
