GAME SUMMMARY
PREVIEW | SUMMARY | BOXSCORE

August 31, 2002 (Metro Empire)- The MetroStars lost to the L.A. Galaxy by a score of 0-3. Carlos Ruiz, who had yet to score versus the Metros, scored a goal in the 4th minute. And EVERYTHING went down from there. Diallo, who has been nothing but annoying in the past few games, started an agrument with captain Clint Mathis. The fight lasted for a few minutes, and calmed down.

But in the 23rd minute, Ruiz managed to score again. Cobi Jones sent a cross, and the ball was deflected by a Galaxian, and Ruiz slotted in a rocket that had no chances of being saved by Timmy Howard.

In the 33rd minute, Mamaduo Diallo was forced to leave the game. He contested Danny Califf for a ball. It seemed that he fouled Califf, but it was quite the opposite. He returned to the bench towards the end of the game, and in the injury was said to be a bruised ankle. If he recovers quickly, he could play Thursday versus the Dallas Burn.

The Metros managed to play the rest of the half without conciding a goal. In the 2nd half, it seemed that the team changed its mentality. Everyone was pushing up, and doing a fair job of defending. Faria had a few really good chances, but as usual, he either took and extra touch or step, and messed up the play. Andy Williams had a couple of long shots that were just too high. Brad Davis, who came in for Mamaduo Diallo, played with a lot of confidence. Nelson Awkari did a tremendous job of defending Jones. Hopefully coach Octavio Zambrano can notice how much skill the kid has, and that he deserves a starting spot on the team.

With the chance of the Metros having a come back, ended in the 83rd minute. Jones sent a header and Ruiz was wide open to head the ball into the net. No one was there to defend, and Steve Jolley and Mike Petke were alone to do all the work.
