Riverfront Stadium Here We Come!

September 19, 2002 (Metro Empire): It has been announced by the MetroStars General Manager that the MetroStars will play their home playoff games at Riverfront Stadium in Newerk, NJ. Hopefully, there will be an awesome atmosphere to prove the NJ Senators that the Metros DO deserve a stadium in the Harrison/Newerk area.

“While we would love to play our playoff games in the stadium where we have played every one of our home games during our franchise’s history, it is unfortunately not an option we have,” said Sakiewicz. “That being said, we are absolutely thrilled to be able to bring our most important games of the year into Riverfront Stadium and the city of Newark, which is not only a hotbed of MetroStars supporters but is also incredibly easy to get to not only by car but by various methods of mass transit.

“And on top of it all, we get the incredible, intimate atmosphere of Riverfront Stadium, which should provide us with the perfect environment as we try to bring home the MLS Cup.”

The Scum from D.C. lost to the Dallas Burn in overtime. The Scum managed to score in the final minutes of regulation during stoppage time. But the USMNT future super-star, Edward Johnson scored in OT. The lose to United means their out of the playoffs for 3 STRAIGHT YEARS!!! Sure, our team hasn't won any silverware, but at least we're going to the playoffs!
