Metro Empire Awards


October 05, 2002 (Metro Empire): Metro Empire has awarded three MetroStars players on the hard work this past season. The awards will be, Golden Ball award which will go to the top scorer on the team. The Metros best defender will receive the Defender of the Year Award. The MVP Award will go to the player that played with most heart, and lead the team with the best statistics. We will also post a poll for next, so you can vote for who you think is the MVP.

The Golden Ball Award will go to the Brazilian Rodrigo Faria. Faria scored 12 goals, and notched 5 assists. Many believed he would go through "Sophmore Jinx" after winning the Rookie of the Year Award last season. He scored a total of 8 goals in the shorten season, and scored 3 more in the playoffs.

The Defender of the Year Award will go to goalkeeper Tim Howard. The defending MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, lead the league in saves for the second straight year. Timmy helped keep the MetroStars in games by making spectacular saves. This season he started in the MLS All-Star game representing Team MLS. T-HO also earned his first cap for the National Team in a 1-0 victory over Ecuador.

Midfielder Andy Williams won the MVP Award. The Jamican International scored 2 goals, and league leading 13 assists. Williams came to the MetroStars in the big blockbuster trade, and made an imediate impact. He also lead the league in most fouls suffered.

Tim Howard to Feyenwood
Tim Howard will train with Feyewood in the Netherlands for two weeks. He will then join the team as they prepare for a few exhibition matches.

Diallo to Saudi Arabia
After failing to make the playoffs, the MetroStars are ready to do some house cleaning. It has been reported that the MetroStars are close to selling forward Mamaduo Diallo to Saudi Arabia for 800 thousand dollars.
