DA Dive Log

Mike Dox reported his dive in the Shrewsbury River on April 4, 2004

Rich Mullen and I buddied up for a dive in the Shrewsbury River on a crisp sunny day in early April. Tom and Al also dove as a buddy team. The dive turned out to be a swift drift. Rich and I held on until the current slackened. After that the 2 of us searched the area where we returned with some interesting finds. The water was around 6 feet vis and the temp was around 44 degrees. No one was cold since we all had dry suits.

This was a good entry dive for the season for me and I am looking forward to more diving this year.

We met new member Ed who joined us for shore support, as did Norva.

Rich, Tom, Ben, and Mike dove the Shrewsbury River on April 18th.

The dive was very pleasant. The water warmed up to the high 40’s and the vis was between 2 to 3 feet. Ben and tom dove as a buddy team while Rich and Mike dove solo. The dive time for everyone was around 50 minutes and no one got the least bit cold. Tom even switched from his mitts to his 5 fingered gloves. A few bottles were recovered, and marine life was more plentiful than on previous dives. Tom saw a flounder, some baitfish, and shrimp. Fishermen were not catching anything yet though, and boat traffic is light.

Norva, Edith, and Luke added shore support.

DA Dive Plan

1) Tom and Rich plan to dive this coming Sunday at noon, April 25. Their destination may be Belmar Shark River Inlet, but it depends on the weather and marine forecast.  Anyone who wants to join them should email Tom or Rich to let them know you plan to join the fun.

2) Tom has one spot available for the May 2 Spring Tide boat dive.

3) Our DA Pre-Memorial Day Dive Picnic is scheduled for Saturday May 15. We may plan to meet at Bay Head for a Bluffs Wreck dive, but we will formalize plans at this coming meeting.

Contact Tom or Rich if you are interested in diving any Sunday or Thursday at various sites throughout the area depending on water and weather conditions.

Boat Dives: Tom and Ben plan to personally charter the Spring Tide out of Brielle for dives in 2004. Tom’s dates are posted on his site www.safescuba.com These dates are open to club members as well as Tom’s students so contact Tom or Ben for information about their dives. The sign up date will be our February and March 2004 meetings. Bring $60 for each dive trip you wish to make.

Tom’s boat dive dates are:

Boat Dives: Sundays: May 02, June 6, and August 15, 2004
