It's not our school systems, it's our dumb parents

They say that education in this country is fucked. I have to agree. Though, unlike many people, I don’t think that it is the money or the attention or even the skills of the teachers that seem to be the problem here. I think it’s the students. Kids today are dumbasses who want everything easy and use crutches like calculators and sports to get by in school.

Recently, and something I think is a great move, San Jose teachers are dropping D’s from their grading system and replacing them with F’s. This is one of the kinds of reforms we need. Kids skirt by, thinking D’s are ok and continue to just barely enough work to pass. This is not suitable for the real world we are training you for. San Jose principle, Pete Murchison, explains the reasoning like this: “I'm fixing my kitchen right now,'' Murchison said. "I'm not going to pay a guy $5,000 for 'D work'.'' People don’t put up with shitty jobs (unless you’re a polititian).

Another quote (from the same FoxNews story) boggles my mind totally. This is taken directly from the article:

"I'd rather go to a junior college,'' said Alex Johnson, a junior at Mountain View High who is eyeing Foothill or De Anza community colleges. He says it's unfair that some teachers at his school are widening the range for an F. His dad isn't thrilled either.

”D's are the only thing keeping him from getting F's,'' Alex's dad, Doug Johnson, said. "He's an incredibly bright kid, but he couldn't care less about school.''

So he’s “incredibly bright” yet gets D’s? And you aren’t stomping his ass a new mudhole? You’re an asshole, sir. These are the kinds of people that end up on talk shows were the big black drill sergeant comes and yells at their dumbass kid because they are too big of pussies to actually discipline their kids.

Doug Johnson is the kind of person that is ruining our educational system. It’s not money or teachers that is the problem, it family. People need to start pushing their kids to do better and give them lots of support in doing so. Hippies have brain washed our society that it’s the government that has the burden of making sure our kids are educated. WRONG. It’s the parents’ responsibility. If the kid isn’t pushed to succeed then he/she won’t succeed. It’s that simple. Why do you think that Asian families are the ones that have the highest high school educated, college graduating, and the fewest drop out rates? Because they push their children to succeed.
