Welcome to our earth-shaking site where every place has its "faults"!

The earth beneath our feet usually feels solid and stationary.  However, on an average of once every 30 seconds around the world the ground shakes and moves under our feet.  We call this an earthquake.
Some earthquakes are so small they go unnoticed.  Whereas other earthquakes can cause great damage and change the face of the earth.
An earthquake is the shaking of the ground caused by the sudden release of energy in the earth's crust.  The energy is released as plates collide, slide past each other, or spread apart from each other.
Earthquakes ~ What more can we learn about the earth through these mighty expressions of earth's energy?  Get ready to rumble with some real time data projects!  Hold on to your seats and watch under your feet!!

This project has been developed by  Cosimina D'Alessandro, Linda Gala, Rosemary Kimball, and Sandra Maiello of Woodrow Wilson School in Bayonne, NJ in conjunction with CIESE at Stevens Institute of Technology, Bank Street, and St. Peter's College,  with support through an Eisenhower Professional Development Program that is administered by the New Jersey State Department of Education.
