Near You Always 7

Next Afternoon, Téa's office

Téa has barely gotten through the enormous stack of work on her desk. Todd's fault of course, she can't stop thinking about him. She glances at the annulment papers, which are now sitting on her desk, still unsigned. She put them there, thinking that maybe, while she was working, she would just grab them and sign them...sort of without thinking. No such luck, at least not yet. Everytime she looked at them, she gets a sick feeling in her stomach.
She glances at her watch. 3:00....okay I'll sign them by 6:00....yeah....by 6:00...
"Hey Delgado."
Tea looks up at the sound of Todd's nickname for her.
"Well, I guess I could just say "leave me alone" but somehow I get the feeling you just wouldn't listen," she says sarcastically, hating the effect he has on her by simply just showing up.
"Me? Listen? Come on Delgado, you know I can't leave you alone."
He sits down in the chair, as Téa attempts to ignore him by shuffling through the papers on her desk. Todd is watching her intently, amused.
"I get to see Shorty tomorrow."
Téa looks up. "Really? You talked to Blair?"
"Yeah, she's not too crazy about the idea, but she'll have to deal."
"Hear about her and Kevin?"
Todd grins, "Yeah, couldn't happen to two nicer people. She'll roll him for all he's worth, and he'll drive her nuts," the grin fades, "although I hate the idea of that jerk being around my kid."
Téa smiles, despite her attempts to remain impassive. "I thought you'd feel that way," she says, then suddenly remembers what she wants to ask him, "Todd, I forgot to ask you? The key you sent me...what is it for?"
"You'll see, Delgado."
"You're not going to tell me?"
"In time."
Téa sighs, annoyed. At him, for not telling her about the key, at herself, for sitting here having a normal conversation with him, acting like nothing happened.
Todd's eyes suddenly wander to the official looking papers on her desk. Téa watches his gaze, and attempts to grab the papers....but Todd is quicker.
"Are these what I think they are?"
"Todd, give them back," she says, now standing in front of him, trying to take them away.
"Still not signed...good," he says, an irresistible grin spreading across his face, "Let's keep it that way."
With that, he begins to tear up the papers.
"Todd! What the hell are you doing? Stop!"
But it's too late, the papers are destroyed.
"Much better," Todd says.
"I can't believe you, " Tea says, furious, "You know, it's not going to stop me from getting new papers drawn up!"
"Don't," he says softly. Téa feels herself losing her resolve at the soft tone in his voice. "Just...don't okay?"
She's about to tell him to stop, it's over between them, but somehow the words just don't come out. He reaches out and tenderly runs a finger along her jaw. Then, wordlessly, with one last look, he turns and leaves. Leaving Téa confused...as usual.
"Damn you Todd," she whispers.

Club Indigo, same day

Todd sits down at the bar and orders a scotch. At least he had made sure they would still be married for a while. He hated her being mad at him...although he knows he deserves it. It's all so confusing....he's fighting to get her back...to get his daughter back...to get his life back...and fighting his own demons inside. He thinks about Viki's words....about seeing a shrink.
Nah, he thinks, no shrinks for me...I can handle it.
"Well...look who's back."
Todd looks across the bar into the face of RJ Gannon.
"What's it to you?"
"Nothing, just making an observation."
"Yeah, well take your observations somewhere else."
RJ smiles. "I see your still your charming self."
"Listen, to what do I owe the pleasure of this conversation?" Todd asks, annoyed, "Oh, wait, you and Delgado are friends, right? I mean, I know that much. So let me guess, you're gonna tell me to stay the hell away from her."
"No."
Todd looks at him in shock. "No?"
"No, none of my business."
"Good," Todd says warily.
"Look, Manning, I care about Téa, we've gotten to be good friends. And she was real messed up about everything that went down with you two. I don't want to see her get hurt again, but Téa's a big girl, and whether she wants to be with you or not, that's her decision."
Todd looks at RJ with a new respect. "Didn't expect that."
"I got no problem with you....one way or the other...like I said, it's Téa's decision what she wants to do with you....just don't hurt her."
"I don't plan on it....at least I'm gonna do my best not too," Todd says, sincerely.
"Good," says RJ, walking away.

Tea's office, later that evening

The work on Téa's desk has lessened....somewhat. Of course, Todd's stunt before hadn't helped. And it didn't help that she could still feel his finger on her face. She sighs, she should call Sam to draw up new papers. She has been telling herself that all day...and of course ...has yet to make the call....

It's late...she thinks...I'll call him tomorrow..., wondering to herself if she would actually have the strength to make the call she would have to make.

To be continued....
