Tea looks cautiously at the package. Does she really want to get involved again? She feels her heart pounding, and she knows she does not have a choice. She picks up the small package, and gathers the rest of her things.
"Thanks for the tea, Carlotta...I've gotta run."
Carlotta looks worried as she sees Tea clutching the package from Todd, "You know, you are under no obligation to him....you can throw that away and move on."
"I know...but I'm morbidly curious," she says, attempting a joke to mask the swirl of emotions inside her. She turns to Cristian, "Did you see who delivered it?"
"No," he says, "I just found it."
"Okay," Tea gives them a weak smile and leaves.
As she leaves the diner, the brisk cold air fills her lungs. It feels good, like it is giving her strength. She walks to the fountain and sits down. She looks at the package in her hand, curious, but also afraid....afraid to let him back in. She opens the small, thin package. All she sees are layers of tissue, and begins to wonder if Todd is messing with her head...again. She carefully picks through the tissue, and discovers...a picture. It is worn and faded. It is a picture of what looks to be a large, expensively decorated room, and in the middle of the room is a little boy playing with a truck, smiling happily at the camera. Even the faded picture does not stop Tea from realizing who the little boy is....she'd know those beautiful eyes anywhere.
Llanfair...Later that evening
Viki answers the door and welcomes her sister in law.
"Hi, Tea," she says, embracing her.
"Hi, Viki, thanks for seeing me on such short notice."
"Tea, you're family. I'm always here for you, you know that," she smiles at Tea, "You sounded upset....is it Todd?" she asks as they move into the living room and sit down.
"I heard from him again. He sent me this," and she hands the picture to Viki.
"That's Todd," Viki says,"Why he can't be more than three in this picture! I don't understand, why did he send you this?"
"I have been asking myself that all day Viki. Part of me wants to just let it go, you know? I mean...if this is just another one of his games, I don't want to play...I'm too tired. But...part of me is worried, what if he's trying to tell me something?"
Viki looks at Tea, understanding the conflict that is going on inside Tea.
"Viki, you told me the other day about one of your alters, Niki, that walked around saying she was you. Do you think something like that was going on with Todd...do you think he is really sick?"
"Tea...I think it is possible that Todd is very ill," she replies, searching Tea's face for a reaction. Tea is silent, her eyes filling with tears as she stares at the picture. A thought occurs to her.
"Maybe that is what he is trying to tell me? I mean, "Tom" was a little boy....maybe with this picture he's introducing me to Tom?"
"Could be...but where does the key fit in?"
"I don't know, Viki, I just don't know."
Viki puts her hand on Tea's shoulder, "Look, if anyone can figure out Todd's message it's you, that seems to be what he is counting on. Just keep talking it out...come up with different theories. And you know I will do whatever I can."
1 week later
Tea's suite at the Palace
Tea is lying on her bed, trying to unwind after a stressful day of work. The Graham case was tough, and it required a lot of time and effort on her part. And it was equally difficult because now she was dealing with Todd's mystery. It seemed to constantly occupy her thoughts. She reaches over to the nightstand and picks up the picture and the key. She looks at the little boy in the picture, the angelic face smiling for the camera. Her heart breaks at the thought of this beautiful boy, who grew up into the man she loved, had to endure the torture of a monster.
She feels a tear slip down her cheek as she whispers, "What are you trying to tell me Todd?"
Todd's room
Todd lays on his bed, not sleeping, as usual. He had just arranged for his next clue to be delivered to Tea at the diner tomorrow. He glances at the pictures on his nightstand, the two most beautiful, precious things in his life. He wants to get back to them, but knows he needs help....needs her help.
He remembers Viki's words in the hospital regarding Tea, "She would understand...."
"I'm counting on it Delgado," he says, "and I'm counting on that mind of yours...don't let me down."
He reaches over and gently runs his fingers over Tea's picture...wondering how she will react to his next clue......
