Re: 2003-04 Sunday School End of the Year Report
The 2003-04 Sunday School came to an
end in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, June 13, with 95 people in
attendance to witness our children sing and perform skits to the
Glory of Our Lord. Promotion Certificates were handed out to
all children from grade 6 to the babies who had attended Sunday
School this past year. Families donated baked goods while the Sunday
School program provided hot & cold drinks that all enjoyed
afterwards.
The chart below summarizes the
attendance and finances for the past two SS years.

Highlights of the SS year included:
Completion of the downstairs SS office. Special thanks go to Ron Knoble, Paul & Dave Miller and Dick Zamorsky for their efforts in working on the office. Special thanks also goes to Susie Kramer's sister's family for donating a computer and printer. Planning meetings in July & January for the SS year;
Rally Day (the first day of SS) in September;
December's Christmas Pageant was organized by Nicole Feenan & Sandy Takacs. 20 pizzas, 12 dozen doughnuts & cookies were donated by local business and $268 was raised for the Compassionate Friends Organization of Easton, PA in memory of Holly Cavanaugh & James Tomer;
Have A Heart for CAI campaign in February netted $1,009 for the SS Benevolence;
Pizza & Bingo Night in March was organized by Suzanne Esposito. St. James and the SS raised $1,400 that was donated to the families of the March 18 fire in Alpha. Again local merchants donated pizza & baked goods for this occasion;
An Easter Egg Hunt was organized by Nicole & Sandy in April for the kids;
First Communion Reception for the fifth graders was organized by the SS on Maundy Thursday evening;
Teachers' Appreciation Dinner was held for the second year in May. This event was organized by Amy Martin with many members of the Martin family pitching in. Teachers recognized this evening included the confirmation teachers plus the regular SS teachers who volunteered their services every Sunday (37 times!) I'd like to recognize Becky Nowalk & Nancy Carhart for their terrific work with our pre-school & toddlers; Mary Ericson worked with the kindergarten and first graders for the first time in our program and did an adminrable job; Luann Beatty continued her fine work with our second graders; Susie Kramer, another SS stalwart, worked with the third & fourth graders; Vicki Pede ably handled the fifth graders for the second year in a row; and first-time teacher Kathy Morgan pitched in not only with the sixth graders but also assisted in covering classes whenever we had absences (which was very infrequently.) Also special recognition to Richard Beatty & Alicia Zaro, seniors who are graduating, for their many years of service as aides in the SS program. And a special thank you to my able assistant Richie Zaro. Rich took over many of the administrative duties (ex. collecting attendance envelopes & offerings, counting & recording monies, etc.) that freed me to concentrate on other matters that normally I would not have had time to do.
SS Closing on June 13. SS raised $3,400 for the Central Asia Institute organization, our benevolence project for the year. A special note: one of our pre-school children turned in a jar of money he had been saving all year for the benevolence project. He saved $100 and turned it over to SS for the benevolence project!
As I tendered my resignation back in
January of this year, this concludes my official duties as St. James'
SS Superintendent. I have worked closely with Nicole Feenan over the
past several months to assist her in preparing for the new SS year
and have provided her with all my papers & files for the SS
program plus keys to the church & SS office. I am always
available to my friend and sister in Christ any time she needs my
assistance.
I want to thank the council for entrusting the job of SS
Superintendent to me and the parents of the SS children for
entrusting their children to us every Sunday (and many days in
between the Sundays.) They have been a blessing for Becky & I
beyond compare. We hope that we have enriched their lives in some
small, immeasurable way in return.
