Medusa is now OPEN!!!

When Six Flags Marine World open's their new B&M floorless coaster, Medusa, it will be the third consecutive year that they have built a new major coaster. In 97' they introduced Kong, a suspended-looping-coaster, and in 98', ROAR!, a top-rated wooden coaster. The one feature that separates Six Flags Marine World's Medusa from the other floorless coasters is it's high-speed back-to-back loops. They are calling this element the "Sea Serpent". The first floorless coaster was built in 1999 at Six Flags Great Adventure (also named Medusa). Coaster entusiasts across the country rated Medusa as one of their top coasters of all time. The floorless design makes riders feel as if they are on a flying chair, and the fact that you are riding above the track makes it seem as your legs will be ripped off.

Six Flags Marine World's Medusa will climb 150 feet into the air and will go through seven inversions traveling at 65mph. Some of Medusa's elements are the back-to-back loops (Sea Serpent), a zero-gravity roll, and high speed spins. Three 32-passenger trains sitting four across will operate on 4,000 feet of track. Medusa's price tag is $15 million.

Medusa is being built in the northeast corner of SFMW, which used to be employee parking. Construction on Medusa has begun and it is scheduled to open in the spring of 2000.
