Middletown, OH- On Thursday January 7th the owners of the American Amusement Park announced that they will be closing their gates for good. Executive vice president of Park River West (Americana's parent company) John Ellison stated "It was not an easy decision."Americana was shut down because of growing competition in the theme park industry near the park. Such parks as Cedar Point and Paramounts Kings Island have been adding bigger and better rides attracting many more visitors. Americana had a park attendance of just over 200,000 in 1999.
The 77 year-old park was home to 40 rides including the classic Screechin' Eagle (an out and back wooden coaster built by John Miller in 1927.) Park River West is currently looking for new owners interested in buying the park.
