The Rose Bride who is Anthy, sister to Akio. Is the one who is supposed to give the power to the one who can 'Revolutionize the World.' She is also used to find the one who can do this very thing. So, who ever owns/wins her. Also has the power to move along through the battles. In order to revolutionize the world.

Now onto the Student Council. The student council are actually members of an under ground group; created by Akio. These members are out to revolutionize the world. Saionji is a member and so is Touga whom is actually the president of it. Members who you identify by a rose ring. Wait for letters from the ends of the world. For their next move and next actions to put into play. During this they also have duels. In order to posses the Rose Bride. Some times battles are put into play by the letters from the ends of the world and some times/mostly put into play them selves. Every member is out to get the Rose Bride and most have their own reasons on why.

At first these characters are introduced to you. You get the impression that perhaps these are the kind of guys. That you'd never want to see again and deserve every thing they get. They are self centered, egotistical, beyond vein, stubborn and pretty much slimy.

Now Saionji, he is not only a member to the Student Council. He is also the captain of the Kendo Team/Club. From the very start of the show he's after the Rose Bride and does any thing and every thing to have her. Even to the point of getting kicked out of the Academy and off the Student Council. He pushes his weight around and does as he pleases. Certainly catching the eye of Utena. This is where he loses his bride at a battle. From that point on he does every thing in his power to get her back.

Although this isn't his only problem. His own worst enemy is his best friend, Touga. As children they were close and still had a slight bond between them. All the way he through he notices Touga's ways with girls at the school. Knowing full well of his ways. Loving and leaving them and going on to the next. He is also, jealous of his falseness. Using any one and every one as he can. Not to mention this guy is also popular. Making it even worse for him to bear. So, what can he do? He does his best in every thing and pushes beyond that. Still seeing that no matter what he does. Touga is always... one step ahead of him.

Now Touga... He shows every thing a gentleman should. Although, for the things that are just as good there is always a side just as bad.
If from watching the show. You think Saionji is bad. Touga is twice as bad as he is. He's a player and every one knows it. Yet every one still chases him and lets him have his way. Not only does this guy use the girls there. He also uses every one and any one to put into play certain motions for the ends of the world. Manipulating them with what they desire and their pain. He even goes along with the ends of the world to the very end. Up until he finally comes into his own revolution. Redeeming him-self as he brings his friend that he had told cruel things to with him.

Touga - Saionji

Together as friends. They start out with slight resentments. That slowly grows and brings back memories that were. Such as the time when they were young. Touga had told him. That Saionji was the only one that would let him beat up on him. Then just after that riding their bike back home. They stumbled upon a young girl in a coffin who had lost her parents. Needing and wanting some thing eternal. Saionji had thought that Touga had really shown the girl some thing he couldn't. Starting the spark then and there.

From then on it was always Touga out doing him. Touga knowing that Saionji was the reason for the good things that were in him. Even though Saionji was the captain of the Kendo team. Touga had still been better than he had. Even in the pursuit of girls. Touga could have any pick he wanted. Saionji, would sit back and pity the poor fool that had flown into the trap. Touga himself told him right before he got kicked out. 'Only a fool believes in friends.' Yet Saionji entrusted his journal to Anthy(rose bride) which was a confession of love - journal; to Touga.

So, how on earth does this make them apart of the ray of hope?
Touga and Saionji no matter what had always fallen back on to the friendship they had and still do. No matter what had been said or things they did to each other... they always went back. Because under the surface of all the resentment and jealousy... they still had that bond no matter how thin. Making them not quite the jerks they had presented at first glance.

Due to the reason of that faint glittered... ray of hope.
