Devil Becomes a Blue
My favorite player in the league
He was on my favorite team
A defensive forward on a defense-oriented team
The perfect match it seemed
He was part of a checking line
That was feared and respected
Intimidating size and strength with spirit connected
Known as "The Crash Line"
I began to read rumors of a trade
No - they wouldn't do that, right?
But I couldn't help worrying day and night
Then I relaxed a bit as the season came
My anxiety took a breather
It seemed everything was fine
Even with the break-up of the "Crash Line"
Because he was valuable, a spirited leader
I faintly heard the evening news
Coming from my tv
Did he just say . . .no, it couldn't be
Yes, he's gone - traded to the Blues
My heart was crushed as the news sank in
And when I heard the details of the trade
I felt angry, furious, enraged
Just total disrespect to him
It was rough at first, you know
When I tuned in to the games
An emptiness was there and it wasn't the same
But my team brought me back and my spirit will show
I still root for him, though
Every week I check his stats
I can still do that
Because he will always be my favorite player
no matter where he goes
