The Eby FamilyEzra E. Eby, author of the "Eby Family" stated that the Ebys lived in Italy and were known as the Ebees. They were heathen until the Waldenses brought Christianity to them in the 12th century or later. Supposedly, the Ebys came to Switzerland during the 11th century. First Generation A Bartlis AEBI* b. c1595 in Switzerland. He d. in Oberbuchsiten, Solothurn, Switzerland. His son: Johannes* (A1). Second Generation A1 Johannes AEBI* b. 1614 at Oberbuchsiten and died there. About 1634 in Switzerland, Johannes m. Magdalena GUT* (dau of Ulrich GUTT II* & Verena WYDLER*). Magdalena was b. 4 Jul. 1608 at Lunnern, Ottenbach, Zurich, Switzerland. She died at Oberbuchsiten. Their son: Johannes* (A11) Third Generation A11 Johannes AEBI* b c1634 at Oberbuchsiten. About 1661 he m. Barbara ERB* (see ERB A164). She was b. 145 at Rothenbach, Bern. Johannes and Barbara died in Switzerland. Their children: Theodorus "Durst"* (A111), Christian (A112) & Jacob (A113). Fourth Generation A111 Theodorus AEBI* ("Durst") was born 25 Apr. 1663 in Emmental, Bern, Switzerland. He died about 11 Dec. 1727 in Earl Township, Lancaster Co., Pa. I have encountered several different variations on his wives. Durst and his first wife had several children: Johannes (A1111), Peter* (A1112), George (A1113), Jacob (A1114), and Christian* (A1115). Durst and his second wife, Barbara had 3 daughters: Barbara (A1116), Mary (A1117) and Ann Elizabeth (A1118). Fifth Generation A1111 Johannes EBY was born in 1685 in Emmental, Switzerland. He died 21 Feb. 1745/6 in Earl, Lancaster Co., Pa. A1112 Peter EBY* was born in 1690 in Canton Zurich, Switzerland and he died around 1750 in Earl, Pa. He first married in 1719 to Anna MEYLIN (daughter of Martin MEYLIN) who was born around 1699 probably in Zurich. Anna died in 1739 in Earl Twp.,Lancaster Co., Pa., leaving 7 children under the age of fifteen. Peter's second marriage took place in Lancaster Co., Pa. in 1740 to Barbara GROFF* (see GROFF L1). When he died in 1750, Abraham Bare and Michael Sharer were appointed guardians of seven of the minor children. In 1751, Barbara Groff's father was appointed guardian of the three sons from Barbara and Peter's marriage. Peter and Anna had several children: Christian (A11121), Jacob (A11122), Peter (A11123), Heinrich (A24), Abraham (A25),Isaac (A26) and Barbara (A27). Peter and Barbara had four children: Anna Barbara* (A28), Dorst (A29), John (A20), Martin (A2a). A1113 George EBY was born in 1694 in Emmental, Switzerland. He immigrated to America in 1715. About 1733 he m. Barbara NEFF at Earl Twp., PA. He died 27 Apr. 1743 in Warwick, Lancaster Co., Pa. A1114 Jacob EBY was born in 1698 in Emmental, Switzerland. He died 4 Jan. 1745/6. A1115 Christian EBY * was born 12 Feb. 1703/4 probably in Germany. He died 15 Sept. 1756 at Hammer Creek, Warwick, Pa. Before 1734, he m. Elizabeth MYER*. She was b. 1708 and d. 12 Dec. 1787 in Lancaster Co. Their children: Christian* (A11151), John (A11152), George (A11153) & Peter (A11154) A1116 Barbara EBY was born around 1706 possibly in Germany? Before 20 Feb. 1734 she m. Hans Heinrich BAR III (see BEAR A5312). She died about 1744 at Earl Twp., PA. A1117 Mary EBY was born around 1710 possibly in Germany? A1118 Ann Elizabeth EBY was possibly born in Germany. About 1739 she m. Hannes BEAR in PA. Sixth Generation A11121 Christian EBY was born in 1720 in Earl, Pa. and he died 12 Mar. 1805. A11122 Jacob EBY was born 18 Jul. 1728 in Earl, Pa. On 15 Jan. 1753 he m. Hannah LEADER. He died 23 May 1794 in Leacock, Pa. A11123 Peter EBY was born in 1730 in Earl, PA. He m. Barbara Anna ROLAND and he died 6 Sept. 1794. A11124 Heinrich EBY (Henry) was born c1733 in Earl, Pa. He m. Elizabeth DAVIES and he died 3 Nov. 1806 in Carlisle City, Cumberland Co., Pa. A11125 Abraham EBY was born on 24 Nov. 1735 in Earl, Pa. He m. Barbara GREIBILL and he died 8 Jan. 1815 in Leacock, Pa. A11126 Isaac EBYwas born in 1737 in Earl, Pa. and he died before 1767. A11127 Barbara EBY was born in 1739. A11128 Anna Barbara EBY* was born 28 Dec. 1741 in Earl, Pa. She died 2 Mar. 1821. About 1762 she m. John HELLER* (see HELLER A1). A11129 Dorst EBY was c1743 and he died after 1815. He was single. A11120 John EBY was born c1745 in Earl, Pa. and he died after 1818. He was married in 1780 to Mary GERBER. They had 7 children: Peter (A111201), David (A111202), Anna (A111203), Catherine (A111204), Barbara (A111205), Christiana (A111206), and Maria (A111207). A1112a Martin EBY was born around 1747 in Earl, Pa. and he died 28 Jun. 1815. He was single. A11151 Christian EBY* b. 22 Feb. 1734 in Lititz, Lancaster Co. About 1760 he m. (Rebecca) Catherine BRICKER* (see BRICKER A111). Christian d. 14 Sep. 1807 at Hammer Creek and is buried in the family plot on the old homestead at Hammer Creek. Catherine was b. 1743 in Warwick and d. 16 Mar. 1810 in Lancaster. A11154 Peter EBY b. 14 Oct. 1765 at Hammer Creek and d. 16 Apr. 1834 at Gap, PA. On 12 Jul. 1788 he m. Margarette HESS Seventh Generation A111201 Peter EBY b. abt. 1783 and d. aft. 1815. A111202 David EBY b. 28 Feb. 1785 and d. 1 Apr. 1860 in Berlin, Ontario, Canada. He was a farmer. On 8 May 1810, he m. Elizabeth BECHTEL , who was b. 5 Mar. 1787 in Warwick Twp. and d. 15 Jan. 1844. A111513 Anna EBY b. 9 Sep. 1777 at Hammer Creek. On 25 Mar. 1800 she m. Jacob WISSLER. Anna was a Mennonite. She d. 25 Apr. 1829 at Mill / Middle Creek, PA. A111514 Benjamin EBY b. 2 May 1785 at Hammer Creek. He was a Mennonite Bishop. On 25 Feb. 1807 he m. Mary BRUBACHER in Ontario, Canada. He d. 28 Jun. 1853 at Berlin, Waterloo, Ontario.
