Chapter 1- Home

"Tay?" Casey called in Taylor's room, "Wake up!"

"Ugh." he said, half-asleep, and turned away from the door.

"C'mon Tay, you can't sleep all day! Hurry up, I have to leave in a half hour to go to school!"

"Casey, school is like, 5 minutes away."

"Tay," she warned him, "get up now!" He was like this every morning, and Casey always got frustrated when he wouldn't get up. She wished she could let him sleep in the mornings, but then he wouldn't get up for the whole day. She was the one that had to help him get into his wheelchair every morning.

"Ugh, fine." he said, throwing a pillow at her. "Hey!" she laughed at him, "C'mon, hurry up, I don't have all day."

God damn, why isn't there ever anything on? Tay thought to himself. He went through this every day when Casey wasn't there, so he could occupy his time. He had tried going to places like the park, but it was boring there too. Tay lit a cigarette and took a long drag. He knew he really shouldn't have started smoking at all, and he knew if Casey saw him, she would yell at him. Tay didn't see what the big deal was, since Casey always smoked too. She tried to deny it, and never smoked in their apartment, but he could still tell when she'd been smoking. The smell was on her clothes a lot. The phone rang. "Hello?" Tay picked up.

"Hi, Tay, it's Laura. Is Casey there?" Laura was one of Casey's friends from school. She was a sororrity girl, and Tay had no idea how Casey had become friends with her in the first place because Casey was so not into that kind of stuff.

"No, she has a class now. She should be home in like, a half hour though."

"Oh, well, I'll tell you then. There's a party tonight and tell Casey I want her to come. Tell her that Nick is going to be there, and a bunch of other guys. She'll know who I'm talking about. You can come too, if you want. You know you're always invited to stuff with Casey. Anyways, I'll see you tonight, Ciao!" Laura hung up the phone.

Damn! Tay thought to himself. That girl never shut up when she was on the phone with anyone. She was really nice though. Tay knew that Casey would want to go to the party that night, and he should go along for the ride, to make sure that she didn't get herself into any trouble. He always worried about her at things like parties, she was always so responsible, except for social events. One time he had to go pick her of from the police station, where she was drugged and drunk out of her mind.

It wasn't that Casey was a druggie or anything, it was all social to her, but it got her into trouble more than once.

"Hey Taylor!" Casey called to him from across the apartment, "Laura wants us to go to a party tonight, do you want to come?"

"Sure," Tay replied. He had no reason not to go to the party, he would have fun. Besides, he had become friends with a few guys that went to college there, and they would go. Tay had a knack for meeting offbeat people like artists and everything. He felt that they were the best company to be around.

"Good, we're leaving in 5 minutes." Casey told him.

"OK, I'm ready." It took them about 5 minutes to get to the sororrity house where the girls were holding the party. There was a ton of people there already, but they found Laura easily.

"Hey guys, how are you?" she asked them, giving Tay a quick kiss on the cheek. He thought that was too touchy-feely, but didn't want to be rude by saying anything.

"Tay," Casey told him, "Me and Laura are gonna go inside, I'll find you later when I'm ready to go home, OK?"

"Fine." Tay mumbled, going away to find his friend Chris who he knew would be there."

"Hey Taylor, what's up?" Chris asked when he saw Tay, giving him a high five."

"Nothin much, you?"

"Nothin, the party rocks though, want me to get you a drink?"

"Sure, thanks." Tay said as Chris walked over to the keg.

"Here you go, man." he said when he returned, giving Tay a thumbs up.

"Thanks," he said. "Is anyone else here?"

"Um, yeah, Pat and Nick are somewhere, probably with girls, and Erick and Glenn are getting drinks. Um, Ian is around here somewhere,I think he's with some girl, or maybe some guy, I don't know who he's with now, but he's here with them, and Greg had to do something at our apartment, so he'll be here soon."

"I gotcha." Tay said to him. Chris was a guy Tay had met the first day he moved into Casey's apartment, he lived a block away with his boyfriend Greg, and they were both majoring in graphic design. Pat and Nick were best friends since high school, and they both lived on campus. They were like, the biggest players ever, and always went to parties, got drunk, and had sex with random girls. Ian was very much his own person, and he did what he wanted. He had no problem going out a guy or girl, but never got into any serious relationships. A week ago, he went out with a guy named Pete, and the week before, he was going out with a stripper named Kait. Erick was engaged to his girlfriend of 3 years, and Glenn was in a pretty serious relationship with a girl named Amy. Taylor was still single, but had had a few relationships since his accident. He really liked a girl named Lucie, bue he knew that he didn't have much of a chance with her. He had gone out with her briefly, but she cheated on him and broke up with him soon after. He didn't know why he was drawn to her so much, but he really liked the girl.

A few hours later, Laura came up to Tay. "Tay, have you seen Casey at all?"

"No, why, when was the last time you saw her?"

"Um, about an hour and a half ago, me and her and some guys I know were smoking up. Casey was pretty drunk too, she had like, 10 or 11 beers and whatever else. It was a lot more than me, that's all I know."

"Damn!" Tay yelled. "We should go look for her, I don't want anything to happen to her."

"She probably went to the park. She was talking to some guy a lot. He was the one who gave us the weed. I went off with this guy I met, so I lost track of her."

"Well, let's hurry it up then," Tay said to her, frustrated.

When the two got to the park, there were 2 or 3 police cars there. "What's going on?" Laura asked them.

"There were some drunk and drugged up kids. We took them down to the station because they had drugs on them."

"Oh, fuck!" Tay yelled from the car. He had a feeling one of the people was Casey.

"Can we go down there to see them?" Laura asked. "We're kind of missing our friend and have a feeling she'll be there."

"Yeah, you kids might have to get her out on bail though."

"Damn!" Tay yelled out loud. "Well, Laura, we'd better get going down there now."

"Yeah, I'm coming."

It took them about 5 minutes to drive down to the police station. "What do you kids want?" A gruff looking officer asked them at the front desk.

"Um, we were wondering if we could see the people who just got arrested for drugs down at the park?" Laura asked the cop. "One of them is probably our friend, and he needs to take her home." she told him, pointing at Taylor.

"Hold on." The officer said, walking into another office and asking someone a question. He soon came back out. "The girl's being released on bail for her first offense. If she is your friend, you should tell her to stop doing that shit." He walked them down to a small room where Casey and 2 guys were sitting.

As soon as she saw them, she jumed up. "Oh my God, Taylor, I thought you would never find me here. Oh man, I want to go home!" she looked like she had been crying, but it was still evident to Taylor that she was wasted and high.

"Yeah," Tay said, "You're coming home. Laura's gonna drive us back to the apartment, I hope you learn your lesson."

"Oh, I did Tay, I swear, I never want to be in here again!"

Soon, after paying her bail, Casey was free to go home. As soon as she was let out, she bent down and gave Tay a huge hug. They went outside to Laura's car, and she drove them home. Laura helped Tay upstairs, and after making sure everything was OK, she left. As she walked out, she could hear Taylor lecturing Casey on god knows what, but she did deserve it.

"Hey Tay, I'm home!" Casey yelled, interrupting Tay's thoughts.

"Hey, Laura called, she wants us to go to a party tonight. You up for it?"

"When have I ever said no to a party, dear" she told him.

"Never, and it's gotten you in trouble more than once." he asid to her.

"Tay," she replied, sternly. "Don't lecture me, I swear to God, don't lecture me. I'm gonna take a shower and get ready for the party, just chill. We'll go soon."

"Fine, I'll call Laura and tell her we're there."

"Good. Sit tight, Tay." With that, Casey disappeared into her bedroom.
