Can we Stop This?

As the bright yellow star
Slowly shines it’s light upon China
The rank of children squint their
Seven year old eyes and
Stretch to the sky
All averaging four feet
Two inches tall
All slaving day and night
Waiting patiently for
The precious fall
The summer sun is too much
To bare, but not they dare
To stare down the barrel of a gun
Quickly they all dress
Just like the days before
Like robots or puppets
They hurry on to the rice awaiting them
Five minutes past
And they hurry off to the factory
Not a word from one
Not even when they are done
As they quickly approach the factory doors
Screams now shriek in their ears
“Faster! Faster!” he shrieks
The ear shattering crack of the
Whip and the scream of a young girl
Faster, faster they carry on
Needle and thread, all day
Or they might end up dead
Days come and days go
Each one moving faster and faster
Every day, sewing that swoosh
And praying, praying not to hear the
Whip, strike someone’s back
And face, and the crying
No, please not the crying
“Faster! Faster!”
They carry on
Day after day
Dawn after dawn
All praying, praying not to hear the
Whip, the whip
That strikes your back
And strikes your face
God, why not save us from this place?
And they carry on, just like the day before
Sew that swoosh, sew that swoosh
Go back
Back to the whip
Back to the swoosh
Back to that shrill sound of crying
No, not the crying
Please, not the crying.
