Chapter 2

"Kari?" I asked impatiently as we wandered around the arena. We could hear the music and girls screaming, and I longed to be inside. "Do you know where we're going?"

"No. But what does that matter? All I care about is finding my Nicky," Kari answered.

"Hey you!" I turned around and saw the ticket man rushing towards us. "Come back here!"

"Run!" I screamed as I took off like a shot. I ran faster than I ever have in my life, partly because I knew we'd probably get arrested if he caught us. The guy wasn't in the best of shape, so we lost him easily, but I knew it wouldn't be for long.

"Like, what are we gonna do Amy?" Kari panted after we finally stopped.

"I don't know. Wait!" I pointed to a door just down the hallway that said ‘Authorized Personnel Only’. "We can go in there!"

Kari and I ran down the hallway and snuck into the door. There were people everywhere, all rushing around.

"You there!" a woman's voice called to us. I could tell she was coming closer, but I couldn't see her through the mass of people.

"Here we go again!" Kari sighed. "I can't run anymore Amy, let's just like, talk to her."

"Girls!" the woman called again as she approached us. She looked so familiar, but I couldn't figure out why. "Girls, you're late!"

"Late?" I asked.

"You are the new make-up and hair girls aren't you?"

"Well-" I started to say, but I was cut off by Kari's elbow.

"Of course we are! I'm sorry Mrs. um.."

"Wright. Donna Wright," the woman finished. I could feel my jaw drop. It was Donna, the Backstreet Boys' manager. "Now what are your names."

I was at a loss for words, so Kari answered for the both of us. "I'm Kari Larkins, and my friend here is Amy Jonstone."

"Well it's nice meeting you girls," Donna said. "You two are aware that you will have to travel with us during our summer tour right?"

"Well no actually," I said, finally regaining speech.

"Okay then," Donna replied. "We'll be on tour for 3 months. Tonight pack all your bags, and be at the Hilton Hotel on Main Street at 6 tomorrow morning. We're leaving for Charlotte." Kari looked at me, her eyes were sparkling with excitement.

"There's nothing that you can do here tonight, so why don't you go home and get some sleep." Donna said.

"Alright," I agreed. Kari just nodded her head.

"Okay then girls, I'll see you at 6 tomorrow morning!" Donna led us out and then left.

"Can you believe it Amy? We're gonna be with the Backstreet Boys all summer!"

"I know it's great!" My face suddenly clouded when I realized something. "But Kari, what are we going to tell our parents?"

"Oh that's like, no problem. We'll call them tonight and tell them that we're going on a vacation."

"For 3 months?"

"We'll tell them that we're going all around the country or something. Amy we're 18 years old. You like, have to be independent sometime."

"Alright," I agreed as we got into Kari's jeep and headed towards home and an exciting summer that I don't think we'll ever forget.
