Jonathan Anthony Frusciante was born March 5th, 1970 in the city of New York, NY. His mom, Gail, is a singer who is now homemaker. And his father, John Sr. was a professional pianist who was trained at Juillard and became a lawyer...and later a judge.

John has had many homes during his teen years. Starting off in New York, to Queens, to Tucson, AZ. Then to Florida where his parents split and Gail took John to Santa Monica, California where he would soon become obsessed with punkrock such as The Germs for instance and skate-boarding.

I think John first started playing guitar when his grandfather gave him an acoustic Gibson at age 10 or 11, he knew the whole album of Nevermind The Bullocks from the Sex Pistols. He showed his father this and his dad got him a Stratocaster. John would pratice with his father's Italian sheet music, while he played guitar his dad would play the mandalin. John was playing over 15 hours a day on his guitar. To albums such as The Germs and Frank Zappa records. John dropped out of high school when he was 17, and moved to Los Angeles, where he and a friend would punch in for classes at G.I.T. without actually attending in order to please their parents' desire that they get an education.
"I would punch in and go to my friend's house and do cocaine, then I'd go back in the afternoon and punch out."
In June 1988, something tragic happened to the Peppers. Hillel Slovak had died of a Heroin OD. The Peppers first had BlackByrd McKnight for a little while. John had been good friends with Mike Balzary aka Flea who's their bassist. The group was amazed on how much influence Hillel had on John. He moved like him, he stood like him, he even dressed like him..according to Alain Johannes. The Peppers knew they had chosen a great replacement. John says they had him strip down so they could see his erect penis. They gave him the nickname "greenie" because he was so young.

But after 3 to 4 years with the band, John began to grow sick of fame. He hated the fact that the Chili Peppers were playing arenas. He hated how the fans would sing and dance to every song and he hated how the fans loved him so much without even knowing him. So. In Japan, 1992, with only a couple of dates left, John quit.
Within those five years excluded from the Peppers, John became extremely depressed and he literally said, the hell with it. I'm becoming a junkie. And shot up all those five years. But besides all of that, he made the most beautiful music that were made into two albums. Niandre Lades And Usually Just A T-Shirt (1994) and Smile From The Streets You Hold (1997).
After Smile came out John went to go get cleaned up. That's when he met Anthony again for the first time in five years. And that's when Flea asked him how he felt about rejoining the band. According to Flea, his face turned bright red and then said, "I think that'll be a good idea." RHCP kept Frusciante's return to the band a secret for about 5 or 6 months, to make sure it would work out and obviously it did. In early April 1998, it was announced that John Frusciante had officially returned to the band!

Now John has come out with his third solo album, "To Record Only Water For Ten Days." And has been doing great! He is living a pure life. With no drugs or alcohol. He does yoga for at least 2 to 3 hours every day. He is also very happy about who and where he is.
