WHoS began modestly as part of a drama course provided by the University of Victoria and have evolved into an independent self-supporting theatre society by producing quality theatre for our patrons. We've earned the distinction of being the longest-running Canadian Theatre troupe behind bars. The only one that opens it's doors to the public. Unlike theatre companies in the community, few if any of the people involved from the prison have ever been involved with theatre before. Each successive production brings a whole new group together who learn and grow along the way. Thus, we have incorporated a training element into the production, making WHoS more than just a theatre company. It becomes an educational experience for everyone involved. WHoS has enjoyed a successful history of producing material by playwrights as diverse as Shakespeare, Camus, Weiss and Euripides. A few of our productions include: Macbeth, The Stranger, Marat/Sade Our Country's Good and Endgame. We've also had the privilege of performing world premieres of work by local playwrights, Robin Skelton (The Paper Cage) and Gary Botting (Fathers)
