Carol's Speech and Language Disorders Homepage

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Hi! My name is Carol Casserly and I'm a speech/language specialist. I hope that if you are a speech/language specialist, a person with a speech or language disorder, or a parent of someone with a speech or language disorder you will find a lot of useful information here. I'm always adding new links, so stop by often and sign my guestbook.

INFORMATION ABOUT ME
I have been a speech/language specialist since 1971. I received both my BA and MA degrees from Montclair State College (now Montclair State University) in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. I am a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the New Jersey Speech-Language-Hearing Association . I am past president of the Sussex County Speech Language Hearing Association and the current Vice President of the Warren County Speech Language Hearing Association. I hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence and am licensed by the State of New Jersey as a speech language pathologist. After 33 years as a speech language specialist working in the public schools, I opened my private practice, Skylands Speech and Language Therapy, LLC, serving northwest New Jersey in September of 2008. Most of my public school years were spent at Blairstown Elementary School. I have experience with children pre-school through high school. I never tire of this profession. It is filled with new challenges and opportunities to learn new things and I cannot imagine a profession that would be more rewarding. I see clients for evaluations and direct therapy, provide parent training, and am available for consultations to public and private schools. Workshops for teachers, parents, and speech language pathologists will be available in the near future. I am excited about this new venture as it will give me the opportunity to involve parents in every session so that therapy becomes an ongoing part of the daily routine, not just the time spent in the therapy room.

In addition to having experience with a wide range of speech and language disorders, I am a PROMPT-trained therapist and have received training in Applied Behavior Analysis. My approach to therapy with school-aged children, is very strategy based. I teach children to take responsibility for their own communication and teach them the strategies as well as the skills they need to become active listeners and effective speakers in their home, school, and community. Younger children are often treated through play therapy, making their therapy experience one they look forward to week after week. Therapy sessions are individualized based on each client's specific needs.

My husband and I have two grown sons and a granddaughter and grandson. When we are not busy with our family, I enjoy singing, songwriting, gardening, various church activities, traveling, and hanging out with our friends. I've developed this website as a service to those who are interested in speech and language disorders.
