Summary/Review:

In Crimson they often run about three story lines at once and manage to do it without confusing the story. This issue has Alex trying to keep darklings under control, Zophiel becoming accustomed to her new life and Scarlet in the snow searching for a wolfman.

After the recent inquisition enforced by the Templar Knights, Alex is still trying to figure out what his role as the Chosen One is and all he can figure is that he is a protector of the innocent. He searches the streets at night trying to restore order and help those in trouble. The Templars battled with monsters in the streets and now that the knights have left, the monsters are back. After he warns one of them that the killing must stop, he then threatens Joe that he must also follow his law. Alex’s life has changed so quickly that he is now in a position of power that he could have never imagined and the power is taking control of him.

Zophiel, the fallen angel introduced last issue, is dazed and confused by now being on Earth, when she enters a mercy shelter she is offered help from a social worker who sees she needs assistance. The next day when the man is heading off to work he finds Zophiel in an alley and realises she is in real trouble. He takes her back to his own house where he offers to let her stay for as long as she needs. He has to get to work so he leaves Zophiel behind and stumbles into Joe on the way. Zophiel doesn’t understand that she was meant to stay where she was and heads back into the streets. On the street Joe sees her and tries to talk to her but she doesn’t recognize him. Joe can’t believe that he has seen the Angel and quickly finds Alex. Zophiel follows him there and asks Alex to teach her about her new life, he rejects her but soon realizes she is like him and offers to help.

Scarlet is north of New York, in Maine, searching for the man she met at the darkling hostel and saw from the church, in the fog. She enters a trading lodge and is welcomed by the occupants one of whom proceeds to tell her his story of Wendigo, a fierce wolfman. After a hot coffee Scarlet leaves, followed by some of the men. After a short scuffle she asks for directions and is warned again of the beastman but insists that she must find him. Later on, the men are still trying to follow her in a truck, when she hears someone approach from behind she leaps at them but is knocked back. The man is the one she is looking for so Scarlet tells him that she has come in search of answers and he offers to teach her what she wants to know.

A good start to another interesting story arc, hopefully the next installment will add another piece to the growing puzzle of Alex’s destiny.
