JUNE 1999 NEWSLETTER VOL. IX #6
Good day to all. The June meeting of PRRH INC. will be held on Wednesday June 23, 1999 at 7:30 PM in the basement of Phillipsburg Town Hall. Excellent entertainment will be provided by Ed Beers. A video of Conrail and BR&W subjects will be the menu.
In Memoriam: The Offices of PRRH wish to extend their condolences to member Glenn Terminelli and his family due to the death of his father Tom Terminelli. Mr. Terminelli passed away on May 28 and is interred at Stewartsville Lutheran Cemetery. A donation has been sent in Tom's memory to the American Cancer Society of Oxford, NJ.
Opening day at the museum: Despite a light turnout for Riverfest. PRRH people really showed their stuff in preparing the site for this year's opening. Much thanks to the following dedicated members for their hard preparatory work: Alan Bellis, Matt and Steve Winter, Derek Long, Jim Mack, Pete Terp, Rick Glosser, Ed Beers, Bob Kirkpatrick, Bob Marinelli, and Evelyn and Bob Bennington. If I missed anyone, let me take this opportunity to thank ALL of you for your time and talents in making this group proud. The C&S operated, the museum was open and staffed and an HO train clickety clacked around the track. Pete has installed a refrigerator for club members to water down.
And now the news, The North Jersey Electric Railroaders have spruced up the facing side of the trolley sweeper and the running gear has a fresh coat of paint.
The State Museum Project took another step closer as the full Assembly approved legislation authorizing a master plan for putting the museum in Phillipsburg. By a vote of 70-2-5, the General Assembly approved an allocation of $500,000 towards development of a master plan for the site. The Bill must still pass the State Senate.
The gas-mechanical diesel previously stored on the NYS&W will be arriving. Your officers are also looking for one or two shorty hoppers to decorate our coal piers. If any of the membership knows of anything like this available, please let one of the officers know.
We are working on some great entertainment in the coming months, so don't miss any of the meetings in the COOL basement.
We have projects to continue including track work. Please come down and help. See Derek Long for work times, or call Pete Terp at 908.213.1722.
Our new neighbor is big black Norfork Southern, the successor to Conrail. Good luck to them in their quest for economic prosperity. Engine lashups should be quite interesting for the foreseeable future.
