SEPTEMBER 1998 NEWSLETTER VOL. VIII #9
This month's meeting will be held as usual at 7:30 P.M. on September 23rd at Phillipsburg Town Hall in the basement. Entertainment will be presented by Ed Beers.
Thoughts of Fall and Winter bring about the setting of goals before cold weather sets in.
1. Finish standard gauge track as planned for 1998.
2. Secure rolling stock for winter.
3. Outside lights up and working.
4. Retaining wall finished so ground can settle.
5. Rebuild 3 C&S switches for next years extension.
Finishing the clearing for our engine house site continues. Another work party to Northampton Street will yield some more artifacts for the Museum.
We now have a purchase order for the retaining wall blocks, but the low quote was Star Concrete who now has no more blocks left to sell (They are made from surplus cement returned in mixer trucks). We are looking for a new supplier with blocks on hand.
Track work continues on the standard gauge as well as tamping on the C&S to improve the ride.
C&S 1503 was suffering from a fuel pump and ignition problems, the fuel pump was replaced and the ignition is being worked on. We have presented a proposal to UEZ Director Mark Portnoy for the use of part of the New Jersey Transit land to extend the C&S west. Mark would like to see the C&S extended for next season. Sunday, October 4th will be our last open house for 1998.
Work Parties will continue on Monday & Thursday evenings and Saturdays. Call Pete Terp for details at 908.213.1722.
