Surf Fishing

Fishing off the surf, requires a long fishing rod around 10 foot or longer; to make the casting distances farther. You need a good heavy-duty spinning reel that can hold 20, to 30 pound test fishing line. Surf fishing is a good way to fish without using a boat.

The Fishing rig is usually a tandem hook leader, or a bottom hook rig with a long hook leader. Fish finder sinkers work well for surf fishing. The 2 to 6 ounce fishing sinkers are usually used for surf fishing. Pyramid sinkers hold the bottom best.

Minnows or squid strips are usually used to catch sea bass, flounder and weakfish. Clam, mackeral, mullet, and shinners are good baits for catching bluefish and other fish.

Fishing on the jetties is an easier way to cast into deeper water. You must reel the ine in faster when over the jetty rocks so you wont snag your fishing line. Flounder and blue fish are usually farther away from the jetties. Tautog and seabass usually are close to the jetties.

The rocks can be slippery when they get wet. Fishing pole holders can be used when fishing from the surf.
