The band first formed in 1994. Butch, Duke, and Steve had started a band together. All they needed was a singer. Then one night, Steve Marker saw a video from the Scottish band Angelfish and knew that the red-haired female vocalist of the band was what they were looking for. After an interview with the singer, 28 year-old Shirley Manson joined the trio and formed the band Garbage. In 1995, Garbage released their self-titled debut album. The record boasted such hit singles as "Only Happy When It Rains" and "Stupid Girl." After the release of Version 2.0 in 1998, Garbage really set there place in the music industry. The upcoming third album, as Butch Vig once said in an interview, "will take severe detours" from the past two albums.
