Empire Waist Gown (Elfin Dress)

This dress came together by fate. I was out fabric shopping when I found this gorgeous pattern that looked like it belonged on a fairy tale princess. I had to make it! And then this gorgeous fake silk material was also on sale for something like $2 a yard. And it was being sold in some of my favorite colors! I had to own it! I had to make it!

I eventually made this costume for my college graduation, so that I'd look like a fairytale princess at graduation ceremony (OK, not really as I was in a black gown, but whatever).

It has since become my favorite costume to actually wear for a lot of reasons. For one, it's as comfortable as my nightgown. It's also strong enough to survive almost anything that I do to it. Oh, and did I mention that it's machine washable and cost less than $30? I feel safe wearing it because I know that I can always just remake it in a day if I destroy it.

Of course, the problem is, everyone is convinced that I'm not a fairytale princess, I'm an elfin princess or a Lord of the Rings character. Argh! The only other suggestion that I ever get is that I'm possible from a Renaissance Fair. No! No! Empire Waists are not Renaissance. And I'm not from Lord of the Rings. Well, not exactly anyway. Still, at least it gives me someone to be. I'm a random elf. ; )
