Welcome home Cujo!
Yes, Maple Leaf Fans Cujo is coming to town! Curtis Joseph (one of the backup goalies in the Nagano olympics) is coming to Toronto. He signed a 4 year, $24 million deal with the Leafs on July 15. We are going to miss you Felix! It looks like Potvan would also be going home to Montreal (Andy Moog called it quits for good so they need another net minder) in exchange for... Mark Recchi, another member of team Canada. That is not confirmed yet by the NHL.
We will miss you Clark! That is right on July 16 Wendel Clark signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning therefore "bolting" from Toronto. Injury prone Clark scored only 12 goals in just 47 games but was at a minus -21. So long Clark!
He's coming home!!! After 14 years in the NHL Steve Thomas is coming back to where it all began! The Toronto Maple Leafs signed free agent Steve Thomas, but the terms of the contract were not disclosed. Things are looking up for Toronto! Yeah baby, we are a contender (about damn time too!)
On June 26 we had a chance to say "so long" once again. Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs Larry Murphy was fired and Pat Quinn was hired. We are looking at a much better team this year and I for once am expecting a lot from the Leafs... A Stanley would hit the spot...
On July 3rd Todd Warrener was resigned by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Good for you Todd!
Now for some gossip!!
Rumour has it that Sundin would be shipped off to Philadelphia for the big L, number 88.. Eric Lindros!!! Good deal if you ask me, finally a good, veteran team leader who would add toughness, and grit to the Leafs. No offense Sundin!
If that deal is pulled off here is what we are looking at...
Lindros up front, possibly Recchi on his right, Thomas backing them up in defence, Cujo stoppin pucks between the pipes, Quinn yelling from the bench = a whole new Maple Leaf team! We are looking for a Stanley... and it looks like we actually have a shot at it this year! The Lindros situation does however look doubtfull since he was offered a deal by the Flyers... we shall see though...
Now that I have said all there is to say about the Leafs on with some more MAJOR trades, etc.
Hull left the Blues for the Stars in exchange for a 3 year, $17 million dollar contract... sweet!
Also Doug Gilmour left the Devils for Chicago, and there he would meet new defencive partner... Paul Coffey? He got kicked from the flyers in exchange for a draft pick... Paul must feel special!
Also the Hurricanes have signed Al Iafrate, and Ron Fracnis so they should be a much better team than they were this year so they should have something to prove, and I think they shall be an interesting team to watch!
