I sat in the midst of a thunder storm, watching in awe as the lightning brightened and then marked the spot in silhouette, the fierceness of the storm but a glimpse of the awesome power of God. As it so happened I was watching a presentation of visualization f God’s wonders and came across a verse in 1 John 1 that gave me reason to think.
The verse says that If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When you begin to think about this concept, the idea of our own unrighteousness, it is overwhelming. Now of course I am not talking about our own concept of unreasonableness or unrighteousness, but God’s idea. Most of us do not want to face our own deficiencies, we rather would tend to overlook this part of our own lives. But we can in the privacy of our own hearts look and know what our unrighteousness, unfaithfulness and sins are. We have no fear to consider the darkness of that side, perhaps it might be easier if we consider that God, knows all there is about us that there is to know. The truth and fact of the matter is that He knows us better then we even care to admit to ourselves.
But when we consider ALL unrighteousness, that He will cleanse from all unrighteousness, from the things we can realize and from the things that we cannot, it becomes a tremendous benefit. There is no one among us who can offer that forgiveness, the cleansing that Jesus promises for his believers.
This verse is just one of many that details promises that God has made for those who follow Him. He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins. For whosoever believes in Him shall never perish but instead have eternal life, cleansed from all unrighteousness.
