Chapter 27
Tiffany's View
My knees gave out beneath me and I fell to the ground sobbing. Brian quickly took me in his arms and rocked me back and forth while I sobbed into his shoulder. He was stroking my hair and he was shaking slightly. I knew he was crying too.
"I'm very sorry," the doctor said sympathetic. "I need to get down there, the sooner we get started the better the chance."
I felt Brian nod and I heard the doctor's foot steps walk quickly down the hall. Brian and I just sat there for a couple more minutes just crying our eyes out.
"Lets go sit down baby," he said pulling away and taking my face in his hands. I nodded and sniffled. He kissed my forehead and helped me up. He wrapped his arms around me and we made our way to the waiting room.
Nick's View
I ran ahead of Michelle, Jason, and Courtney with Brianna in my arms. Darlene had Brian in her arms. We rushed through the doors and down the hall to the elevators.
"Mr. Carter! You aren't allowed up there at this moment!" Nora exclaimed. I ignored her and stepped onto the elevator quickly. The door were closing when I heard Nora yell out, "Mr. McLean! I'm going to call security on all of you! Mr. Richardson, Mr. Dorough! Stop this instant!"
"SHUT UP!" I heard Howie yell angrily down the hall. Someone's hand then stopped the doors from closing and they opened once more. AJ was standing there with Colleen, Kevin was rushing up behind him and so was Howie. They got on the elevator and we rushed up to Christian's floor.
"Brian! We heard! Is everything OK?" Kevin asked worriedly. Tiffany then broke down crying again.
"Oh no," I said under my breath.
"We don't know yet," Brian said sadly pulling Tiffany close to him.
"What happened?" AJ asked sitting down.
"Yeah, what happened mommy?" Courtney repeated. I sat down and bounced Brianna on my knee. She started to giggle. I couldn't help but smile from that.
"Christian has internal bleeding," Brian replied.
"What's that?" Jason asked.
"Is he going to be all right?" Howie asked.
"What did the doctors say?" Kevin asked.
"Slow down, Christian is bleeding rapidly he said and that he doesn't have that good of a chance of surviving."
Tears came to my eyes. This is horrible! I thought everything was going to be all right.
"I'm so sorry," Howie said sadly.
"Christian's dying?" Michelle asked.
"We aren't sure yet sweetie," Brian replied. Michelle looked down and started to cry lightly.
"I don't want to lose my brother!" Courtney cried.
"It'll be OK," Jason said nodding his head. We all looked up at him.
"I hope so," Tiffany said softly.
An Hour Later
"Mr. and Mrs. Littrell?" Dr. Johnson said coming into the waiting room. Brian and Tiffany stood up walking up to him. The doctor led them out of the room but I could still see them. I couldn't hear a word the doctor said and I couldn't tell anything from his expression. Brian had his arm wrapped around Tiffany's shoulder and Tiffany had her arms crossed over her chest. The doctor then stopped talking and Tiffany and Brian started to cry. Tiffany covered her face with her hands and cried. Brian hugged her tight and then pulled away.
I was thinking the worst. Christian was gone. I just knew it, he was gone. Tears started to well up in my eyes and I looked down. I wiped my cheeks and then looked up again and what I saw confused me. Brian kissed Tiffany on the lips and when he pulled away he was smiling. Tiffany was too...she was smiling through her tears. Then I realized it...they were crying happy tears, not sad. The doctor smiled and then patted Brian's back. Brian shook his hand and then hugged Tiffany once more.
I couldn't wait any longer. I wanted to know what the heck the doctor said. I got up and gave Brianna to Darlene. Everyone was quiet in the room waiting for Tiffany and Brian to reenter but I just wasn't that patient. I walked out of the room and up to them. Brian saw me and pulled awake from Tiffany.
"What did he say?" I asked. Brian smiled widely and said, "He's OK, Christian's OK. They got the bleeding to stop and even better Christian woke up from his coma!"
My mouth dropped open and a grin spread across my face. I opened my arms and Brian and I hugged. Guys can be sensitive too you know!
"That's so great B! Did the doctors say when he'll get out?" I asked.
"The doctor said in about a week and a half to two weeks."
"That's awesome! Things are finally going back to normal!"
"Do our lives ever go back to normal?" Tiffany laughed. She had a point there.
"No," I laughed.
"I wonder what will happen next," Tiffany said.
"Whatever it is I'm hoping it isn't bad," Brian said wrapping his arm around Tiffany's shoulder.
"You just gotta have faith and we'll all be OK," I smiled.
"You're right...for once in your life," Brian laughed.
"Shut your mouth man!" I said pushing his shoulder.
"I'm only playing."
"Whatever."
"You know I am Frack, you are so immature sometimes I swear," Brian said shaking his head.
"Shut up Bri! You're the immature one!" I said pushing him again.
"Me? Immature? HA! If any of us were immature it would be you!" Brian said pushing him back.
"No way! I'm the mature one!" I said pushing him once more.
"BOTH of you are immature...there, it's solved," Tiffany smiled. We both looked at her with our mouths open. She just smiled up at us. Brian looked at me and I looked at him.
"Umph," we both said and then crossed our arms turning our backs to each other.
"You two are so weird!" Tiffany laughed.
"No...we're just talented," I said. Tiffany rolled her eyes and entered the waiting room.
"Talented? That's all you could come up with?" Brian asked. Then I heard him mumble 'loser.'
"Hey! I heard that!" I exclaimed.
"I'm joking! Jeez, some blondes these days," he shook his head entering the room. I stood there for a moment and then realized what he said, "Excuse you!? How rude!"
Brian just laughed and smacked my arm, "You'll never change."
"Should I?" I asked.
"Dude Nick, just sit down," AJ laughed. I sat down and then acted hurt. Tiffany kissed my cheek and patted my knee, "You're perfect the way you are."
"Thank you," I smiled at her.
"Ohhhh watch out! Nick and Tiffany are flirting!" AJ teased.
"They better not be," Darlene and Brian said together. Tiffany and I just smiled at each other. Yup, things are going back to normal...well as normal as our lives can get.
