Chapter 9
Nick:
Someone
knocking on the door woke me up.
"What?" I answered groggy, discombobulated, and slightly agitated.
Leighanne rushed in and started pacing around. "I can't find him, Nick.
I don't know where he went. Do you have any idea?"
"Who went where?" I asked totally confused.
"Brian. He's not in his room; he's obviously not here. Kevin's being an
ass about it. AJ's gone too. And that only leaves you and Howie. Any idea?"
I shrugged. "No idea."
Durbbie:
I heard the commotion
outside the door as Scott proceeded to have his way with me. I tried to give
hints here and there as to where I was and to keep the commotion hidden from
Scott.
Suddenly there was silence outside. Scott was still doing his thing, by now
I detached physically and was concentrating on getting out alive.
Out of nowhere, the door was kicked in and police were everywhere. Scott's initial
reaction was pure shock, but he recovered quickly. "You little tramp!"
Scott said hitting me across the face with the gun. I grimaced as I felt blood
trickle down my face. My head felt like it had been hit with a baseball bat.
"What the hell were you thinking?"
'I will not cry, I will not cry' I kept telling myself as the pain intensified
with every beat of my heart.
"Just as I thought," Scott said with a smirk as he aimed the gun directly
at me.
"You're surrounded, Scott. Why don't you give up already?" the cops
said. "There's no sense resisting."
The look of hatred in his eyes was undeniable. The scary thing was that it was
all directed at me through a little piece of metal with a bullet inside. My
heart was beating a mile a second.
The cops talking to him were doing nothing. I knew my time was running short
because I saw the look intensify, so I decided to take my life in my own hands
and try my luck.
"Do it," I said calmly.
"Excuse me?" Scott questioned.
"Do it. Shoot me and get it over with," I said in a normal tone. "I
dare you." Scott didn't do anything: just stood there with me staring down
the barrel of the gun. "I'm right here. If this is what you want, then
do it. Nobody's stopping you."
For a moment I thought he was going to do it. My heart leapt into my throat
and I closed my eyes in preparation. The last thing I see before I leave this
place is not going to be a gun. I heard a click
Melissa:
I
heard every word Durbbie was saying. I was shaking so violently that I couldn't
bear to think about anything, let alone attempt to stand. AJ and I were leaning
against each other as we sat against the wall. Neither of us were saying a word,
but enough was said in the silences.
Sounds of Durbbie double-talking to Scott were heard sending echoes down the
hallway and shivers down my spine. This was one situation neither of us needed
to be dealing with right now.
"I hope she's OK," I said to nobody in particular.
Durbbie:
"I
I
can't," Scott said as he lowered the gun. "Not to you."
This was going to turn ugly in a matter of moments. "Give me the gun, Scott,"
I asked.
"I've been meaning to do this for so long now," he said sounding like
a lost little puppy.
Brian:
The sound of a gunshot being fired woke me from my daze. I bolted out of the
stairwell to find out what was going on. What I saw somewhat surprised me.
The police were walking out of the apartment calmly. Somebody was calling for
backup with a body bag. AJ and Melissa were trying to fight their way inside,
but were being forced out by police. The whole scene was a madhouse.
"I need to get in there," I said to a cop as I was being pushed away.
"Sir, you need to leave right now. You can come back when everything's
cleaned up," I was told as I was escorted out of the building without finding
out what happened.
AJ:
The
first thing I heard when I got into the apartment other than the police reporting
numbers through walkie talkies was hysterics coming from the bathroom. As soon
as Melissa heard that, she went running in, not even bothering to knock.
I wasn't prepared for what I saw.
There was Durbbie in the middle of the floor, covered in blood, sprawled over
the lifeless body of what I'm assuming was Scott. She looked so scared, so heartbroken
that I barely recognized her as the person that earlier in the night was waging
war against me.
"Oh Durbbie," Melissa said attempting to cradle her friend in her
arms. Durbbie wouldn't let go of Scott though. She kept looking at him, almost
wishing for him to come back to life.
"But I love you Scott. Don't die. We can go out tomorrow. How about that?"
Durbbie said as she stroked what was left of his matted and bloody hair. "Tomorrow
things will be better and
"
That was all I heard of the conversation. I left apartment. I was so appalled,
so disgusted that it literally made me sick.
"Is she still in there?" an officer asked me. I nodded, unable to
do anything else. "She's not still with the body is she?" I nodded
again.
Melissa:
"Alright
now, Miss. It's time for you to leave," an officer said attempting to get
Durbbie away from Scott.
"I'm not going anywhere without him," Durbbie said hysterically.
"The only place you're going is to the hospital," the officer reported
while pulling Durbbie to her feet.
