Topography is variation in elevation of the land.

Contour lines show topography on a map. They connect points that
have the same elevation.

The closer together the contour lines, the steeper the slope.

Contour lines form closed loops.

The index contour lines are the darkest, heaviest lines and are labeled with
elevation.

The contour interval is the amount of elevation between each contour line.

The elevation is measured from sea level.

Hachures are short lines or marks that indicate a depression.

Contour lines that cross a valley are v-shaped. (question on test)
