As you probably already know, the Titanic struck an iceburg which was the main cause for the sinking. What you might not know is that the Titanic could have prevented the sinking in many ways.
The First thing that could have prevented the sinking would be this:
The driver at the time, not Captain Smith, could have not turned the wheel and reverse the engines and had let the Titanic hit head on. If the ship had hit head on then 5 of the water tight compartments wouldn't have been punctured, which was one more then could be allowed for the ship to stay afloat.
Another reason the Titanic could have prevented the sinking would have been for Captain Smith to have been more aware of the warnings of ice and had not pressed the journey on. The reason he increased speed instead of decreasing in speed was that the Captain and a few other aristocratics that were a major part of the Titanic making wanted to surprise the passengers by arriving the before the scheduled arrival so that not only would the ship be "unsinkable," but it would also be the fastest ship at that time. What a headline that would have been:
"On The Unsinkable Titanic's Madian Voyage Successful And Super Fast!!"
I guess if they had known what lied in their future they would have been more cautious, especially if they had seen these pictures:
