Web Design & Engineering. Formed independent enterprise based on knowledge gained from previous consulting experiences, along with business continuity planning and tech writing. Emphasis was placed on fast-loading multi-page sites with cross-platform browser compatibility, employing Java, ActiveX, HTML, DHTML, CCS, CGI, etc. Designed and implemented a number of commercial Web sites hosted on UNIX/Linux and Windows NT platforms in NJ, RI, FL, IL and CA. 

  •  Project: September 11th Website. Founded UCanHelp.com shortly after the tragedies of September 11th as a resource for volunteers and for those seeking ways to help the relief efforts going on at Ground Zero in New York City and in Washington, DC. This site quickly became a major source of information for the volunteer community, and is still active. Yahoo! listed it as a NYC volunteer resource in less than three weeks from going online, along with being listed by Google and most other major search engines within the first thirty days of operation.
  •  Published Business Continuity Planning, A Primer for Management and IT Personnel as a basic online disaster recovery resource. Within the first thirty days of publication, this document was listed by Global Continuity plc as one of its essential recommended documents for disaster recovery and business continuity planning personnel. It has since been sent upon request to many domestic and international corporations and government agencies, and has received a number of favorable reviews.

Originally hired by GE Capital Consulting for contract position with GE Financial Assurance. Company was sold to Metamor Worldwide later in 1999, and became Metamor Consulting Solutions. PSINet, Inc., an Internet Super Carrier purchased Metamor Worldwide in the summer of 2000. The new group became PSINet Consulting Solutions. In Early June 2001, Metamor Industry Solutions became the new name for the consulting practice.

Client: PSINet, Inc. – Herndon Hosting Center, Herndon, VA

Assigned to parent company's flagship Web hosting facility in Herndon, VA for purposes of helping to define internal processes that needed improvement or repair. Commuted to site on Mondays and back to PA on weekends. Duties included taking a "30,000 foot view" of all Web hosting processes in all domestic facilities (Herndon, NYC, LA, Atlanta, Dallas) and suggest improvements, reporting findings to management.

  • Participated in company-wide team leadership meetings, getting input from hosting centers and strategizing policies for: information pipeline; EMC training; network diagramming standards; hosting site disaster recovery; pre-sales engineering issues, client implementation & termination policies, and utilization of Web-based resources. 
  • Collaborated with on-site management to identify the top seven key customers. These were used as working "templates" around which to design necessary standards for documentation, checklists and network diagrams.
  • Project: Primus Introduction. Participated as core-team member to standardize Primus Answer Engine (SolutionExplorer eCRM) solutions into database for all aspects of Web hosting. These new processes were finalized 2/2001, initial phase rolled out to staff 3/2001 as part of an ongoing project.
  • Project Lead: Documentation & Networking Standardization. Collaborated with management to identify the key customers. These were used as working “templates” around which to design necessary standards for documentation, checklists and network diagrams. Set standards for customer (client) documentation, including Visio diagrams for all client sites.
  •  Directed group of Implementation Managers to review and standardize of all COLO (co-located) and managed host server implementation processes. Successfully finalized these processes first quarter 2001. 
  • Project Lead: Internal Certification. Worked with NT and UNIX team leads, set standards and documented internal processes for VeriSign Certification on Windows NT and UNIX platforms. Included standardization and documentation of procedures for generation of key pairs and CSRs for Microsoft IIS 5.0, Enterprise Server 4.x, Stronghold Server, and Apache Server with mod_ssl. Processes were then used as standards, resulting in fewer errors, increased productivity and cost savings. 
  • Maintained ongoing project leadership and/or participant role with clients such as: NASA Human Spaceflight, Hewlett-Packard Smart Friends, FOLIOfn Investments, Virtual Access Networks and others.

Client: GE Financial Assurance, Fort Washington, PA

Assignment was as Sr. UNIX System Administrator with additional duties as a project manager. Primary duties included administration of the UNIX environment of production data warehouse and e-commerce servers. Original environment consisted of HP 9000 K- & D-Class servers running on HP-UX 10.20 with Oracle database instances and EMC Symmetrix Arrays in a 24-hour/7 day a week operation.

  • Primary high-level project was to stabilize UNIX environment on servers that had been crashing due to lack of maintenance and administration. Reorganized file systems, installed necessary patches and implemented backup procedures utilizing new ATL DLT tape library. Started; tested and implemented disaster recovery procedures. Installed Legato NetWorker backup software; automated backup procedures on entire UNIX environment.
  • Implemented new plan and worked with Oracle DBAs to upgrade production data warehouse instances from Oracle 7.3.2 to 8.0.4. Upgrade was successful; data integrity and performance was improved. Set service-level agreements with clients, then met or exceeded them.
  • Began project plans to upgrade servers from HP-UX 10.20 to 11.0, implementing 64-bit versions whenever possible. Expanded project to include Oracle 8i upgrades. Installed and administered Sterling Commerce GENTRAN: Server (EDI application) for new project.
  • Determined need for more powerful production data warehouse environment. Presented proposals to management, which were accepted. Was then asked to write specifications and get quotes for new HP 9000 N-Class server. Once approved, established source and did follow-up work on behalf of company to expedite purchase orders for equipment. Worked with HP CEs, supervising install of new server and implementing into environment.
  • Assumed responsibilities for monitoring and upkeep of EMC Symmetrix 5500 & 3430 Arrays when former data administrator left the company. Lead major rebuilds of arrays.
  • Provided support during major "lift" of IBM S/390 mainframe from Valley Forge, PA to Alpharetta, GA in Sept 1999. Responsible for maintaining connections between midrange servers in Valley Forge and S/390. Lead successful Y2K initiative for UNIX environment, no software or hardware failures. Responsible for day-to-day midrange systems security.
  • Began project plans Jan 2000 for data center move of all UNIX equipment from Valley Forge, PA to new facility in Fort Washington, PA. Assumed sole responsibility for coordinating move of UNIX environment in conjunction with HP & EMC personnel successfully moved to new facility April 2000. All equipment online and functioning 24 hours ahead of projected time.
  • Supervised installation and integration of new IBM RS/6000 H70 server (AIX) for new DB2 collaborative venture with Progressive Insurance.
  • Managed installation and integration of new Sun E3500, E220R and E420R servers (Solaris) for new e-business initiative. UNIX integration portion of project was brought in ahead of schedule.

  • Led project to diagnose and pinpoint problem areas. Coordinated resolutions and minimized service disruptions. Implemented local and remote monitoring of application processes.
  • Produced procedure manuals for all areas of the IXOS-ARCHIVE application. Wrote troubleshooting guidelines for quick recovery of systems under emergency conditions.
