Uganda, 2006 or 2007. Gorilla Trek. The endangered mountain gorilla is a magnificent animal. Join me to take a journey of a lifetime as you trek to observe these endangered Mountain Gorillas. The Bwindi Impenetrable forest is located in south western Uganda and is sanctuary to a number of gorilla families. Visitors are limited and permits are required. On this two week adventure we will also see a variety of monkeys, chimpanzees, and a variety of other african game animals. We will experience two days of tracking the gorilla families, the search can take anywhere from 1-5 hours and climbs to a possible 7500 feet. Visitors are required to maintain a distance of 20 feet from the gorillas (although that is often up to the gorillas), to remain silent, to move slowly and to assume certain precautionary positions in the event of a charge. The terrain is rough and at times muddy. Although the hike is physically demanding, the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery makes the trekking worthwhile. Once the gorillas are located all fatigue is forgotten as the experience is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world. Maximum of twelve in group. Air from New York and land $4300 + airline taxes per person based on a double room...2 gorilla permits $720 total. Airfare additional from your home town. Airfare and gorilla permits are subject to increased without notice.
