WORLD WAR 1:

Dubbed as "The
War To End All Wars" World War I
began as a local European conflict between Austria-Hungary and
Serbia on July 28, 1914; was transformed into a general European
war by the declaration of war made by Germany against Russia,
August 1, 1914; and eventually became a global war involving
thirty two nations, twenty eight of which, known as the Allies
and the Associated Powers, and including Great Britain, France,
Russia, Italy and the United States, opposed the coalition known
as the Central Powers, consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary,
Turkey and Bulgaria.
It is estimated that
there were 126,000 American lives lost
in World War 1

WWII was a
conflict between two coalitions of states, designated the Axis
Powers and the Allies or United Nations. The Axis Powers included
Germany, Italy, Japan, and their satellites. The Allies consisted
the United States, the United Kingdom, the Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics, China, and their Allies.
The war ended with the unconditional surrender of Germany on May
9, 1945 and of Japan on September 2, 1945

Johnson's Message to Congress (Partial)
August 5, 1964
Last night I announced to the American people that the North
Vietnamese regime had conducted further deliberate attacks
against U.S. naval vessels operating in international waters, and
I had therefore directed air action against gunboats and
supporting facilities used in these hostile operations. This air
action has now been carried out with substantial damage to the
boats and facilities. Two U.S. aircraft were lost in the action.
After consultation with the leaders of both parties in the
Congress, I further announced a decision to ask the Congress for
a resolution expressing the unity and determination of the United
States in supporting freedom and in protecting peace in southeast
Asia......

BEIRUT:
It should be noted that on October 23, 1983, American foreign
policy and pride suffered a terrible shock when a Muslim suicide
bomber destroyed the Marine barracks in Beirut, killing 240 U.S. Marines.
GRENADA:
October-December
1983
On October 13,
1983, the Grenadian Army, controlled by former Deputy Prime
Minister Bernard Coard, seized power in a bloody coup.The
presence of nearly 1,000 American medical students in Grenada was
of great concern to the U.S.
In the early morning of October 25, 1983, the United States
invaded the island of Grenada.the island quickly fell under
American control.
U.S.-- 19 dead (officially).
Grenada-- 49 dead and several hundred wounded.
Cuba-- 29 dead and over a hundred wounded.
Panama:
December 1989
On 15 December 1989, the National Assembly of Panama declared
that a state of war existed with the U.S. and adopted measures to
confront foreign aggression.
The objective of the invasion of Panama was to protect American
lives, maintain the security of the Panama Canal, restore
democracy to Panama and to capture General Noriega and bring him
to justice.
The mission was a success.General Noriega is now serving 40
years in a Florida jail for drug trafficing

The United States
suffered 148 killed in
action, 458 wounded, 121 killed in
nonhostile actions and 11 female
combat deaths,in the battle to liberate Kuwait from the Iraqi
stranglehold.
In June 1991 the U.S.
estimated that more than 100,000 Iraqi soldiers died, 300,000
werewounded, 150,000 deserted, and 60,000 were taken prisoner.
Many human rights groups claimed a much higher numbers of Iraqi
killed in action.
SOMALIA:
October 3, 1993
What had started
out as an operation to capture warlord Mohammed Farah Aidid--turned
into a tragic firefight that lasted seventeen hours.The most
violent combat firefight since Vietnam. On October 3, 1993 elite
units of the US Army's Rangers and Delta Force were ambushed by
Somali men, women and children armed with automatic weapons and
rocket-propelled grenades.
